PROLOGUE
The ringing phone filled her with dread, but she went and picked it up anyway.
"Hello! My name is Barbara Sethers, and I'm the Family Project representative for Herald Litchfield-Green High School. I'm calling for Miley-Raine Drew?"
"This is she," Miley-Raine replied.
"I'm calling about your assignment."
"Assignment? I'm sorry, uhm...."
"Oh, I'm sorry," Miss Sethers said.
"That's what we refer to your assigned child as. That is, until we can notify you of their name and age, and that's what I'm calling about."
"Oh, fantastic!"
"You got a little girl, about age one. Her name is Maisonne. Maisonne Madison Tyler."
"Thats a beautiful name for who I'm sure is a beautiful girl."
"She is. She's just precious. Adorable," Miss Sethers.
"Maisonne. I've always thought that was a pretty name. I knew a little girl named Maisonne once."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah. She got adopted."
