//February 23. 2030. Julia's House, 4:45 PM//

I loved getting home after a hard day of work back at the Interpol Headquarters (meaning that I managed to avoid the sight of blood for a full ten hours). I flopped onto the couch immediately and watched Julia sit down across from me. "Are you excited for tomorrow?" she asked me.

I nodded. "Uh huh! Although..."

"Is something wrong?" Julia asked, raising an eyebrow suspiciously.

"Mr. Q mentioned that there were murders down at Happy House Carnival... What was he talking about?" I questioned, not knowing if I was ready for the answer or not. Especially if it was a bloody answer...

Julia paused before crossing over to her computer. "If you want me to, I can look up the murders to show you that you have nothing to worry about. Besides, agents of the law rarely ever get attacked because criminals fear them, so you'll be safe with me," Julia assured me.

"I still want to know what sort of murders Mr. Q was talking about," I said to her stubbornly, though we both knew I still wasn't sure if I really wanted to hear about those murders. Killings always made me a little bit queasy...

"Okay..." Julia began to type away at her computer. "I got the information. It says here that two murders have taken place there. One was three years ago and a young woman in her teens was killed. The killers were caught during the trial that followed, though, so you have nothing to worry about anything."

"What about the other murder?" I asked, gulping.

"Let's see. Alright. The second one took place last year. A nineteen year old girl was stabbed, but the killer there was caught as well," Julia told me. I could tell that she was holding back something, but I dare not ask. The answer might be scary.

I don't like scary things.

"B-but both of them were teenagers... And I'm a teenager... Does this mean that I'm going to get attacked and killed?!" I squealed.

Julia crossed the room and wrapped an arm around me. "No need to worry. Teenagers go there all the time and they turn out fine. You don't have anything to stress over," she told me.

I nodded, rubbing my eyes before tears could cloud my vision. I didn't like crying, especially when it was in front of Julia... I didn't want her to think of me as just a weak little kid.

If I was a weak little kid... She'd start calling me 'Minami' like she does with Fee-Fee! I like Fee-Fee and all, but I could never pull off being like that... It just wouldn't work for me.

"Have you ever been to that carnival?" I asked, changing the subject so that I wouldn't get too upset. Talking about death made me get that way.

Julia shook her head. "No. But people seem to enjoy it, and so I figure that you'll find it fun. Besides, we haven't had much time to be together. Just the two of us," she smiled.

I grinned up at her. "You're right. I bet that this will be fun," I beamed. I began to bounce up and down out of excitement. I couldn't wait!!

"You sure do seem excited for it," Julia commented, noticing how widely I was smiling. "I take it you can't wait for tomorrow?"

I swear that she can read my mind sometimes. It's like she's some sort of psychic!!

"Of course I can't wait! It'll be just the two of us having fun! But if you decide to take Mr. Q, maybe you two could work on you getting a husband," I smirked.

Julia started blushing, so she took a step back and turned away from me so that she could hide her blushing cheeks from me. I grinned. Ms. L was right; Julia really was made for Mr. Q!

"K-Kotoko..." Julia stammered, still refusing to face me.

"What?" I asked innocently, though I already knew well of what I had done to get her so flustered.

"Q-Q and I aren't like that... We're just... Friends... Who spend a lot of time together... Alone... Without Griffin... Or you..." Julia told me.

"You do realize that you're describing being in love with him, right?" I reminded her.

She refused to look at me, so I assumed that her blush was only growing more furious. "Kotoko... Have you ever been in a real relationship?" she asked, trying to change the subject.

I wasn't going to let her off the hook that easy. "No, but Ms. L tells me all about what it's like, so I know that you and Mr. Q are madly in love and are meant to grow up and get married with me as the flower girl," I smiled dreamily, lost in thought just thinking of Julia in a pretty wedding dress that reached the floor...

"Kotoko, don't listen to L. She's crazy," Julia told me. "I'd prefer it if you wouldn't even talk to her at all."

"Don't be so negative!" I cried. "She's really nice! And I bet that she knows what she's talking about!"

"Too bad the rest of us don't get any of it..." Julia muttered, shaking her head.

"Either way, I'm really excited for tomorrow. I'll be really mad at you if you have to drop out of it because Mr. M assigns you onto something for whatever reason," I pouted. "If that happens, I won't talk to you for a week."

"I promise I'll be there," Julia said. "You have nothing to worry about."

"Yay!!" I cheered, jumping in a circle happily. I looked out the window for a brief second to see somebody wearing all black staring in through the curtains, but I was spinning to fast to slow down and look back. They were gone when my rotation reached that place again.

I shrugged it off at the time, thinking it was just my imagination playing up as I thought about Nightfall. He'd been on my mind a lot then.

Too bad I didn't realize how wrong I had been to disregard that at the time.
