My eyes scope out the crunchiest of leaves

On the street in back of my house“Aha!” I shout In my head, like I’m five“

You wont get away from me!”

And with this great energy that rises from the pit of my stomach

I pounce

On the red and brown leaves in front of me

Making sure I haven’t missed any

Crunch, crunch, crunch

The heal of my boot presses them into the cement

I love that sound

It’s like when you eat cereal or a Kit Kat bar.

Kit Kats are my favorite

Halloweens coming soon I can’t wait

In my head I picture candy, and pumpkins, and cats and---

Whoosh

A loud sound catches my attention

The wind shakes the leafless trees

Back and forth they go

The branches look like hands waving

And before I know it

My hand rises and I wave back
