She dropped to the ground on the bathroom floor on her knees gasping for air. She couldn't think. It was like the smoke that was sweeping under the door was fogging up in her head. She had to get out of the house. A whirl of nausea shot through her, making her bend over retching on the floor. The scream that was heard behind the door that was at the moment shielding her from the roaring flames made her stop gagging. Standing up she looked around grabbing the towel that was thrown in a corner and ran over to the sink and watered down the towel. Taking a deep breath she turned around to the door closing her eyes she quickly grasped the door handle and jerked it open, covering her face with the wet towel she started through the hall bumping against the wall as she ran. "Daring!" She screamed over the smoke and the flames. "Daring!" A wail rang through the house to answer her. She ran back up the hall that was quickly being taken over by the mad fire into the kitchen. Sitting on the floor in a corner was the wailing baby. She quickly swooped up the baby and turned back but the doorway was blocked by the red flames. Backing away she turned to the small dirty kitchen window by the fridge. She gently sat the baby down on the floor wrapping the damp towel around her tightly trying not to panic and tried opening the window. It was stuck. "God get me out of here!" She whispered looking back at the fire that was trying to take over the kitchen. Laying on the floor was her fathers old rusted baseball bat. Quickly praying again she swung with all her might, looking at the window to only to see a dent she swung again and then again and again until it shattered cutting her hands and face. She reached down for the baby and held her to her wildly beating heart she looked back at the roaring flames that surrounded her one last look and she jumped out the window. Running away from the burning house a fast has she could. she heard sirens of a firetruck and ambulance. The firetruck quickly screeched to a halt has the fireman came flying out, one rushing to her and the rest to save the house in red flames. Everything became a blur, her mind still fogged up with smoke, her hands became to shake has she held on to the bundle in her arms. She heard the voice of the fireman but the words made no since to her has he checked her out waving down the paramedics to come and help. Shouts and sirens and a soft voice blended around her has she tried to stay on her feet. Arms gently took hold of her holding her to a strong chest for support. Someone tried to take the wailing baby from her arms but she wouldn't let go not now, not now that she just got safe she needed her, she couldn't let go. She knees suddenly couldn't hold her anymore has they buckled underneath her has her eyes drifted closed.
