Chapter One

Zyla jolted awake, her eyes wide, hair messy and stared straight into her reflection. She rubbed her eyes and smoothed down her hair. Glancing at the oval mirror hung directly opposite her, she shuddered. Zyla looked around for her mobile, she reached for the bed side table and picked it up. She saw that it was 1:45am. Sighing loudly, she climbed of the bed and began to gather her maths notes. Zyla has a maths test and she had spent the night studying for it only to fall asleep three hours later. Packing her notes into her bag. she dropped it at the foot of her bed and slowly walked to her bathroom. Zyla splashed cold water onto her face and gasped at the coldness. Glancing up at the mirror over her sink, her eyes were bloodshot, skin pale. Her jeans and t-shirt were wrinkled. Zyla sighed again and quickly walked to her room .

Standing by the window, Zyla looked out at the street below. Her room was situated at the front of the house with a small balcony. She liked sitting there during the summer, relaxing with a chilled soda and a good read. Zyla pressed her forehead against the glass, relishing the coldness which spread through her body making her shiver. She crossed her arms against her chest and hugged herself tight. A movement caught her eye. A shadow darted across the opposite pavement and hid behing a hedge. Zyla gaspes and jumped, her heart fluttering in her chest from the abrupt movement. She watched the cat run accross the road and dissappeared at the end of the street. Zyla stood rooted to the spot deep in thought. She was sure the shadow resembled the shape of a human and not a cat. Zyla concentrated on the spot the shadow had dissappeared trying to determine if she could see more movement. The street lay in silence, basking in the moonlight, an owl hooted in the distance. Zyla shook herself and took a step back from the high window. It must have been a cat she thought. She crawled under her covers and pulled them under her chin. Zyla fell into a restless sleep.

He peeked through the hedge, looking up at the window opposite him. The girl had retreated back in to the room. It was lucky for him that she had only caught a glimpse before he hid behind a hedge. She was the most beautiful person he had ever seen. Well,of what he had seen as she was covered in shadows. He straightened up slowly and walked down the street, keeping an eye out for unwanted attention. It was about time he fed.
