The beginning

The world spins- continually and forever more, and I know that however bad my day might be however deep that pool of tears may be- it will always keep spinning

Rain  fell on the barn roof- Mom rushing to find leeks and  cracks to slip the bucket under. Dad sat motionless in the study as if every raindrop annoyed him, Theresa and Theo were upstairs  probably fighting about something that probably never mattered.

As you can tell from my cynicism, I may have not had a good day, it all started with a letter...

"Kari!" My mother screamed, "the invite! It arrived! It arrived!". Looking up from my breakfast I saw a beautifully written letter, the kind we would have to save up for years just to touch. You may not get the message but we're poor dead poor, we live in a thatched barn with leeks and the family of rats my sister, Theresa named.

"Karina!"my mother bellowed in my ear, caught off guard I massaged my ear lobe. "Do you not understand what this means for you!".
"Yes Mother! I have spent my entire education learning about The Match in History and Politics and pretty much everything else they teach at the Utopian School For Those Less Fortunate!"

Ok, I see you may not have had to sit in endless History Lessons talking about one of the most stupid histories any given kingdom could have. Utopia was once a mix of exiles and crooks, people every kingdom didn't want so instead they left them to our own devices. This followed with mayhem and doubt and blood. Until King Rimley arrived, the self proclaimed king of misfits was really just an exile from the European Community. He managed to swindle the inhabitants of Utopia to thinking he was a real king come to take over, with his good looks and easy charm it was no wonder that in a week Utopia was clean, crisp and renamed until it was put on the globe.

Now on a frightful stormy night, a ship carrying royal daughters as
a treaty for  the Prince of Shindalæ shipwrecked on our shores, giving birth to the Match, an endless treaty with the community around the globe, that the Prince of Utopia would get a choice of his princess, and this leaves me to my situation.

"There is no need to snap!" said my mother hypocritically, "now fill it out!".
"Mother!I am not a pawn in a game of chess from international nobility!"
"Knew we shou'nt sent 'er to dat darn school" my Dad jumped in " Know she's too smart for us Polly"
"Mother!Father! Please! I don't want to marry a prince! I just want my own  life!" I screeched " And how can I have that if you dictate me! Maybe I don't want to be a princess! In order to die first I have to live! And how can I do that if I was a princess!I will not fill out that form and I will not do it for you or the State! Fifty girls compete for one man! I am from our state! My position would just be a political compromise! And in case you haven't noticed, I have your genes! And believe me that's not attractive!" I rushed outside the cold night air swallowing me up into a pool of my despair
