Long, twisting wisps of steam rose from the coffee cup, flushing the warm hand that hovered over the rim. A small sigh exited Kaira's pursed lips as she stared down at the cup of tea. The thoughts of returning to Hogwarts entered her mind once again. Setting down her tea and shrugging her arms into the bodice of her sweater, Kaira curled up on her armchair. The soft material of the chair rubbed into her cheek as she rested her face on the back.

Ambrosia Nighy entered the living room to see her sister resting sideways on the light blue armchair, basically swimming in her sweater. It was the burgundy sweater she had gotten her sister for Christmas last year, though she didn't understand why she was wearing it in the summer. Perhaps she had a cold.

"Kai...are you ill?" Ambrosia neared her sister and sat on the small area of armchair that held only by her sister's feet. The younger blonde glanced past her sister and stared at the open door that lead to the kitchen. Her sister exhaled forcefully and got up, shutting the once open door.

"No." The word flew out of her mouth the moment the wooden door closed. Ambrosia's green eyes lingered on her, working out unrelated symptoms. She soon realized that even though she was smart, if her dads couldn't figure out what was wrong with Kaira, neither could she.

"What is it then?" Ambrosia had been growing sick of her sister. Worrying Father, Dad, Valko, herself...making their heads spin everyday of the week.

Kaira had stopped eating dinner, rarely coming out of her room, only for a cup of tea. Though it relieved Ambrosia to see the fourteen year old coming out of her room, the older sister wanted the mystery to end once and for all.

"I'm fine." This was the only response they ever got from her and Ambrosia wasn't surprised when Kaira used it again. The older sister was tempted to let out a groan but didn't want the other sister to storm up to her room.

"Are you sure?" At this, Kaira sighed again and looked into her sister's emerald eyes.

"I'm trying to keep you safe." Kaira uncurled herself and slid her arms into her sleeves. Grabbing her tea, she made light work of the stairs and Ambrosia heard her sister's door shut with a solid click.

Kaira had left her sister confused and Ambrosia sat herself on the couch parallel to where Kai was just sitting. Ambrosia visioned Kai on the armchair five years ago, when Kai was nine and Ambrosia was eleven. The small body of her sister would be rested there, once again curled up like a cat with a nice, good book. But instead of Dickens, it would be replaced with 'The Magic Treehouse'. The unruly blonde waves would be tamed by Father's intricate braids and she would be reading aloud, passion letting the words unravel off the nine year old tongue with grace.

The vision disappeared as the rain started pattering on the window, small taps that shook the memory away with each splash of water on the glass; like rain washing away her chalk painting on the driveway, little by little until it's completely faded.

"Amy? Is Kai okay?" Ambrosia dragged her gaze away from the chair and gave her younger brother a strained smile.

"I'm not sure Valko..." she replied, letting him run over and get comfy on her lap. The nine year old grinned at her.

"I'm sure she is Amy, sometimes people just feel sad. They're fighting themselves and trying to win. Just like Kai is trying to win for us." Ambrosia's heart swelled when the boy finished with a firm nod. He set a small hand on her shoulder and squeezed slightly. She rubbed his back lightly.

   "Of course Val, you're right."

So they sat there, until Father and Dad came home, letting the teen upstairs listen to their laughs. Envying their carefree lifestyles, wishing she could sit down there with her family and forget the oncoming threat. Oh how funny it was that one person could change all that with a single sentence.

   "They're a dead family walking."
