From the kingdom's window, I can see a world filled with cruelty. A world not for the coward but for the brave, not for the children nor for the women. This place is filled with historical events, leaving marks in every corner . Fear, destruction, and greed never left the place. War is the general way of living. War is the only way we can defend ourselves. Surviving by means of killing.
I see humans but no humanity.
I turned around, leaving the sight that is in front of me. I look at the mirror and I see a king, a king with no power.
How was my father able to do the duties of a king if we all live by the will of the Gods alone? The people are scared. Yes they are living , but they are living in hell on earth.
Many have said that my father did not died while he was fighting for freedom against the enemy during the war. They said that the gods killed him, for he have discovered something. Something that made them angry. What could it be?
Ten days from now marks the hundredth year of the kingdom. Yearly, a lady must be sacrificed, but this year, a virgin must be sacrificed. This will serve as a gift we offer to the God of Abundance, who gives us all we need in order for us to live, but this made the whole place so cruel.
Some wish they would bear a daughter for abundance, some don't wan't to bear for they better have sons than have their daughter, if chosen, get killed in front of them.
Someone knocked at the door.
"Come in!" I ordered.
He opened the door .
"My king, they are all here. We're ready when you are." He bowed, closing the door.I deeply inhaled, then exhaled the air of injustice. I should be ready.
I saw beautiful ladies waiting for me downstairs. They are all scared.
They all looked straight at me when they heard my footsteps.
"Welcome to the kingdom." I greeted them.
"I am king Agethorne, son of the late King Merthes." I introduced myself, slowly walking down the stairs.
"We know! Now pick one of us! We have a lot of works to do!" A girl shouted.
"Oh if I would choose, I would pick you!" I pointed her, which made her tan skin turn to white.
"But since I want fairness, at least just with this, I have a list of your names here." I lifted the bowl.
"I'll pick one so the rest can go home." I slowly drowned my hands with the scrolls inside the bowl.
I picked one and lifted the scroll in front of them. Their eyes followed my hand's direction.
"Reonna from the Masidee family." I shouted and everyone looked at a crying girl.
She raised her hand and the guards went to get her. They were about to grab her when a girl stopped them.
"Stop please... please stop!" The girl is screaming, pulling the hands of the guards away from the girl.
"Not her. Her father needs her so much right now, his father is weak!" She begged, kneeling.
The guards tried to drove her away.
"My king, please! I beg for your kindness." She cried.
I turned around and faced her.
"Then who?!" I exclaimed. She stopped sobbing and looked straight into my eyes. "Let it be me."
