A Series of Un-Freaking-Fortunate Events. (A BBRae Teen Titans Fic)

Their fighting was to be expected.

     He was loud and carefree, almost always seen with a smile on his face. She was dark and moody, rarely even tilting her lips upward in a smile.

     He told obnoxious jokes and tried to get her out of her shell when it was obvious that she didn't want to be bothered. She retaliated through cold brush-offs.

     He couldn't stand her. She couldn't stand him.

     This, amplified by the fact that there had been absolutely no villains to take it out on for weeks, was the reason why this particular fight was different.

     It had began with a casual comment about Beastboy's intellect. It sounded innocent enough, but Beastboy had immediately bristled and shot back a creepy insult, which lead to Raven's scorn of his newest girlfriend. Beastboy had retorted that she'd onlyhad one boyfriend, and he'd only used her for his own gain.

     And that's when it became extremely personal.

       "Friend Raven, Friend Beastboy," Starfire clasped her hands together nervously and looked in between the silent pair. They were locked in a heated gaze, the kind that could kill.

       "Yo, BB..." Cyborg trailed off and stopped in the entrance of the doorway, returning from a Not-a-date with Bumblebee.

      The half-man, half-robot looked at Starfire. All evidence of his previous smile had been erased by a weary expression. He sighed. "What'd he do this time?"

       "Friend Beastboy did nothing, actually." Starfire screwed up her face in thought. "It was very odd. She just began to do the attacking of poor Beastboy."

       "And he retaliated eagerly." Cyborg sighed again. In a louder voice, he addressed the irate couple. "Guys. Seriously, this has got to stop."

       "Stay out of this, Cyborg," they both said tersely, lips barely moving.

     Robin emerged and stopped just behind Cyborg. Like his older, friend, he sighed. Ran a hand through his hair. "I thought they weren't speaking to each other."

       "Beastboy? Cyborg asked him. "Not taking an opportunity to annoy Raven?"

       "I am quite worried, Boyfriend Robin. Friend Raven has not been herself-" Starfire was cut off by an angry growl.

       "Where are you going?" Beastboy demanded. "You can't just walk away."

       "I can and I am," Raven replied levelly. "I do not have time for any more of your silly arguments."

     His hand shot forward and wrapped around her upper arm-

     And in one, swift movement, she twisted, yanked him up by his arm with her powers, and threw him through the Tower window.

     Raven stood still, visibly getting herself together. Her fists were clenched tightly, fingernails pressed into pale palms. She shook, once, twice, before her eyes flew open and she turned.

     All three of the remaining titans quickly scooted out of her way when Raven quietly passed, not looking at any of them.

     Yes, their fighting was to be expected. But what had transpired in the past few weeks went beyond mere personality clashes.

     Something, Robin thought, was off.

     The Tower alarms pierced the silence.
