Today I, Evangeline Crystal Mason, turn 18.

I got a letter from The Academy Of Unnatural Powers. The academy for people like me.

It just showed up in my hand yesterday while I was sitting in my cot, thinking.

It read:

Evangeline Crystal Mason,

We at The Academy Of Unnatural Powers (A.U.P.) have been informed of your coming of age. You shall report to the west side dock at 5 o'clock p.m. on the morrow to be brought to our academy on the island of Natalia located in the Pacific Ocean.

You shall be studying the arts of shape shifting and controlling the elements.

We look forward to your arrival at our island.

Good Luck!,

Mary McKinnon, Director of Education.

So I'm basically going to a school for freaks.

And I'm a freak too.

So I am packing up my bags and saying adios to this hell hole they call an orphanage.

Yeah 10 years in a place like this will trigger some negative feelings.

I am so glad I can finally practice my powers without watching my back for Azelda or any of the other girls. The head of the orphanage, Nancy, is glad I'm 'finally' leaving. Guess what Nancy? So am I!

Its now 4:15 and I am all packed and ready to call a cab.

I head down the rickety old stairs and out the door without looking back once.

" 'Ello there missy. What can I do ya for?" The speaker is a man that looks to be about 50-60 with a beard, a limp, and a warm, friendly smile.

I am currently standing awkwardly with my bags at the west side dock at 4:55, talking to this kind man.

" well, I'm just here for the 5 o'clock boat to...." I drift off, not sure if I should tell him or not.

" Natalia, eh?" He half whispers, looking around his demeanor changing from smiley to stern.

"Yeah, Natalia. How could you tell?" I respond.

"Only a shapeshifter could have those eyes. Well, the boat shall be moving onward soon. I reckon you outta board 'er!" His smile returns as he points to a rather large, red and black steamboat.

"Thanks so much!" I smile to him as I walk toward it.

He waves, all smiles as I retreat.

I get on the boat and look around.

There are other people on the boat, looking to be about my age. Two girls and three boys. Yay, people.

One of the girls has long, strait, blonde hair that fell to her waist. She is rather skinny and pale but her blue eyes show vibrantly from her milky skin.. Hey, blondes can be nice, right? Just cause Azelda the number one blonde at the orphanage was awful doesn't mean she will be, right?

The other girl has very very very very curly very very very very red hair that ends at her mid

back. Her green eyes and numerous freckles make it very obvious she's like Scottish or something. Don't some people have the stupid idea that red heads are devils? Push that's just a stupid little internet thing, right? Yeah I was allowed the internet for an hour a day at the orphanage. Wow, my whole life revolves around that orphanage doesn't it?

One of the boys is very tall very blonde very muscular and very hot. Oh well I am so sorry for being a teenage girl! His hazel eyes seem to light up as he laughs along with the other blonde, that looks exactly like him... Yay twins!

The last boy has shortish brown hair and brown eyes. Yes, he is hot too. Every boy on the boat is hot! Awkward for me because I have only seen like three boys in my lifetime, two of which were sons of adopters and the third was Nancy's son, sorry, ugly son.

I snap back to reality when I hear a splash from behind me. I whip around only to see a football floating in the water next to the boat.

"Damnit Brian! Now how are we gonna get it back?" One of the blonde twins shoves the other who i assume is Brian.

"Just see if there's a water controller on the boat, geez." Brian says in a 'duh' tone.

I whip around again and focus my energy on the water lifting the football in a cloud of water. Once the football is at my level, I pick it from the water cloud and turn around again to see Brian, his twin, the blondie, the red-head, and the other guy all staring at me in astonishment, and.... Joy?

"Want it back?" I ask holding the football higher for a second at Brian and his twin.

"Oh, uh yeah. Thanks.." Brian says smiling at me and coming forward. "Brian" he sticks out his hand and I take it, shaking it lightly.

"Evangeline, but call me Eva." I say back, handing him the ball.
