It's late and I'm freezing.
The london autumn cold air is blowing through my black chestnut hair. In the midnight it seems darker than usual. I like it.
But I shouldn't worry about my hair right now. It wasn't a good idea to come here wearing only a dress with a few centimetres shorter than my knees and a cardigan. It seems the rain just stopped to fall an hour ago and the streets still shine under the headlights. The air is wet and really cold. A terrible combination for my senses. I wasn't ready for this ruthless autumn.
The airport was almost empty when I arrived here so I head to the sidewalk. The luggage will arrive only in the morning so the only thing that I have to carry now is my bag. I take my phone from the small pocket of my green dress and dial my aunt's number.
" Hello, sweetie" she answers with a squeaky voice. I can hear some noise behind her.
" Hello" I say with a smile across my face. I miss her.
" Sorry but I drank four or five glasses of champagne... I don't remember exactly how many but the fact is that I can't reach you from the airport and" I cut her off.
" You drank? Alone?" I say surprised. I hope that she hasn't returned to her old habit.
" No, of course not. You know I'm crazy but not so far. I am at Caroline, she has a small party at her house because it's her birthday and it's funny, " I am relieved to hear the reason why she is drinking now. " you should be here to see what cool dance moves I ha- " I cut off my childish aunt again.
" Jo. " I call her by her nickname.
" What? "
" I am here. Alone. In the street. At midnight. Trembling as hell" I lightly scream in the phone emphasizing every word I say. " How can I get to your house? "
" Oh, don't worry about that. Liam will be there in a few minutes to bring you home. He is with a friend" She calmly tells me.
" Janice! " I hear a man calls through the phone.
" I gotta go, honey. I'm waiting you with my arms open. Love you" She hangs up the phone.
" Oh, thanks aunt. That's very nice from you " I shout at the phone even if I know Jo is no more on the line.
I love my funny aunt. I really do but sometimes she just drives me crazy. She was always that type of woman who likes jokes, parties and liberty. Maybe this is why she didn't get married. She couldn't find a man to love a woman who likes to live like a teenager always, like her. But hey, who am I to judge? Only God can judge us. Anyway, she is a part of my family and also she is my friend.
I am just about to call Jo again when I see some lights. It's a car. A luxury car. Is that Liam? I get close to the road and wait for the car to slow down. But it doesn't. When the car passes by my front suddenly I feel the water of a puddle exploding on me, wetting every inch of my skin.
" Wet chick! " A boy yells from the car with a raspy voice.
I hear giggles and laughter before the car disappears after a corner.
" How nice way to be greeted in the UK" I think to myself.
