Kate's POV
Wednesday December 20, 2015I woke up and rubbed my eyes. I looked out my window and saw that it was snowing. I got excited a bit since it doesn't snow much here in Georgia.
That reminds me, I have to check the mail. Ah shoot, it's cold though.
I walked downstairs to see a full blown breakfast and Sam's mom, Terry. I smiled and yawned.
" Hey Kate, Good morning." Terry greeted.
"Hey mom, hey Terry. What brings you here?" I asked, grabbing my plate, eating.
" Oh you know, it's kinda hard with Sam not bein' here and all. It gets pretty lonely at home without her around." She explained.
" Oh I know how you feel, one of the best things that ever happened to me."
I finished the last few bites of my food and put my plate in the sink.
"Mm listen I'm gonna go check the mail. I gotta see if one of the presents for Christmas came. I'll be back." I said putting on my sweater and shoes.
Mom nodded and I walked out. I opened the mail box and saw two packages and a... letter?
"The hell?"
I grabbed everything and went back inside. I set the stuff down on the table and mom noticed.
"Good, the last two presents came. Whats that?" Mom pointed at the letter.
"Its a letter,"
"Oh?
I examined it. ",from Sam!"
I ripped the letter open and something fell out. It was a necklace that had two tags, on it was Sam's personal info .
"Terry you might wanna listen to this, it's a letter sent from Sam. I'll read it out loud." I unfolded the letter amd began to read.
Dear family,
I am inspired by the abundant support of letters and emails while I am deployed in Baghdad Iraq, fighting and defending our nation. Being away from you is hard, which is why I sent you my dog tags. During our phone call, your moving words meant so much to me. I hear and read so many negative stories about our service here. But I want to emphasize that we are defeating those intent on destroying hope, the hope most Iraqis feel.
So I hope you don't feel our fighting is for nothing. We are gonna win this war. Though tragically we have lost fellow soldiers during our fight. They will never be forgotten. They will forever represnt success. They will forever represent our country's future. I feel it to my duty to defend you and ensure that these battles should remain on foreign soil. Not our own.
So please continue to pray for our safety and our strength.
P.S. Tony and I, we coupled up.
Love,
SamI finished and teared up a bit. So did Terry. I closed the letter and walked up to my room. I should bring this to Chandler.
I walked out to my car and started it. I dialed Chandler's number and waited.
Chandler's POV
Brianna and I were interrupted by a phone call from Kate. I ignored it once and we continued to make out in my room.
My phone vibrated again and I decided to answer. Brianna groaned and got off my lap. I put my hand up in defense and answered the phone.
" Hello?" I said.
" Hey Chan. I'm gonna go drop something off to you. I'm almost there. Be out in two minutes."
Thats all? "Oh o-okay? See you then."
I was expecting Kate to say something about Sam. I put on a sweater and walked down stairs.
" Where you going babe?" Brianna asked.
"Just picking something up from Kate, she's outside." I put my shoes on and walked out.
Kate was parked in the front. I walked up to her window and knocked. The window rolled down.
"Hey what's up." She said.
"Hey. What'd ya got?"
"Here it's a letter."
" Lemme guess. From Sam?"
Kate nodded yes.
" Figures." I groaned.
" Oh come on Chandler, give the girl a goddamn break. She trains about 15 hours a day to protect you and me. This is the most she can give us. Why do you hate her all of a sudden? To you she was everything. She was your whole world. Now it's like someone flicked the switch. You've changed so much boy. But fine, if you don't care then, I'll just not update you on ANYTHING at all about her. This is the last time you'll hear from her. But it's okay, that should be another burden off your back." Kate threw the letter at me, shifted gears and slowly pulled away.
