Remembering the feeling of happiness is hard for me. I somehow make it through a day of bullying and others surrounding me with their laughter that's directed at me. The feeling of depression only follows me home as I walk through the door to find my parents drinking their worries away. My only escape is my room where I can cry myself to sleep, but even in my dreams I find myself crying.
That is until he showed up and whisked me away.
As I cried in the dark depths of my dream, a hand tapped my shoulder and I looked up to the person who held it out to me. The man that wore a black suit and red tie looked young as far as I could tell, most of his features were hidden by the white poker faced mask. His brown locks almost hiding the green of his one eye that wasn't covered by the mask that showed a sense of worry, only to be accompanied by a smile.
"Hey, don't just sit here on your own. Come with me, there's so much more to see." His hand came a little closer and I finally took it.
Our surroundings changed quickly, a dull room of just beautiful soft, pink petals. With a snap of his fingers, I was suddenly in a beautiful dress. Still hand in hand, he started to run through the layers of petals around us. I was still confused about what was happening but he somehow had gotten my tears to stop.
The young man stops us in front of a single door amongst the petals. It was just standing there, unattached from any walls. "This is the door that will bring you back."
His voice was quiet as he chose his next words. "We can see each other everyday but you have to go back through the door at the end of our time together." He looked to me with a wide smile. "I'm sorry to say, but our time is up. I'll see you later okay?"
The doors opened up for me when I walked towards them and I looked behind me to see him waving goodbye to me. Just as I walked through the doors, I jolted awake in my bed and the day began like any other. Except now, the sadness disappeared and I was filled with confusion and wonder. The bullying was masked by the thought of last night's dream. I walked right past my unconscious parents when I got home and straight to my room, where I laid my head down and drifted off to sleep.
He wasn't at all wrong when he said he would see me tomorrow. I was still in the dress I happened to be in the night before but the scenery around me was totally different. Fish swam around in a waterless room while I sat on a bench. It was so odd but amazing.
"Welcome back, princess." I heard the young man's voice from behind me and I turned to face him, shock overcoming my face.
"H-hello..." I mumbled, still staring at him.
He walked over to me, sitting next to me and putting a pretty flower in my hair. "You look as stunning as ever." His smile made my face spread with blush.
"Thank you." I said as I looked away bashfully.
The rest of the time we sat on the bench discussing random things. I found myself smiling over our conversation. But all too soon we had to stop as the doors appeared in front of us. We said our goodbye's and I pranced away with the brightest smile I've had for a long while.
