So they danced.
They danced without any words being spoken.
Eric couldn't speak because he had done what his parents told him to do, win her over.
Naomi couldn't speak because this was the first kiss, the first dance, and the first guy that's liked her.
They couldn't speak because they didn't want to.
They couldn't speak on the way to Naomi's home, where her mother lay passed out with the smell of whiskey flooding their nostrils.
They couldn't speak when Luke came out of the bathroom, screaming drunkenly.
They couldn't speak when they made it out safely with Naomi's clothes and bag.
They couldn't speak when they kissed again in front of Naomi's apartment building.
They couldn't speak on the way to Eric's home.
They couldn't speak when his mother opened the door.
Naomi couldn't speak once Eric started speaking about her life.
Eric couldn't speak when his mother helped Naomi get cleaned up.
Eric couldn't speak when he saw Naomi standing next to his mom, all cleaned up.
Naomi couldn't speak when she smiled at Eric, who was completely starstruck after seeing her.
They both could speak at the same time in the end though.
"Thank you."
