Him

I held his hand as his body softly settled on the cold sand. Amber waves lapped the shore, slowly eroding and transporting sediment to other unknown lands. It was an overcast morning as the awaking life force staining the ground a primitive red, defying everything we've done to evolve. Ancestors bled and painted the ground inking the final full stop on their story just as he did. Even as he strived to be the smartest and most resourceful person his body still turned back the clock to the more basic times. Pure times. Times when we could explore without the chains of responsibility. A more free time. I could tell that his mind was in another place. His body was labelled to fit in with standards inflicted by his friends and family. Surely..... Surely I didn't cause this... I couldn't have... I never imposed anything onto him. Did I? I call his name absently and my mind starts to wander as the lights in his eyes start to fade into empty shells.

I think back to a better time where we saw the world through rose tinted glasses and nothing could go wrong. Simple naivety rocked our minds and music powered our hearts to beat. Stereo Hearts and summery thoughts.
