The ash was everywhere; coming from the sky like rain, pouring down on everyone and everything. Right before the electricity went out, I heard the news lady say that Yellowstone has erupted. I couldn't believe it but now here I stand in Reading, Pennsylvania, with ash pouring down.
"What are we going to do, Tom?" My mom shrieked. "We have to protect the kids!"
" Calm down, Susan!" My dad snapped. " I got this under control"
My dad is on the Supreme Court. They've been planning an evacuation for the past 5 hours ; ever since they heard that there has been an 10.0 earthquake along the San Andres plate. California went completely underwater, no one survived. Hawaii experienced a 300 foot tsunami a couple of minutes after, while every single volcano on the island erupted.. And shortly after; Yellowstone, a super volcano located at Yellowstone national park in Wyoming, erupted. The ash traveled around the whole world blocking out the sun, making it difficult to breath.
"They are sending a car to come and get us," my dad sighed.
They told him that right before the power went off and everyone lost phone reception; which was 15 minutes ago.
"Well it's been 15 minutes!" My mom hollered. "What if they don't come?"
"Mom, calm down," I soothed. " they'll be here."
I knew they would come. My dad worked for the government for as long as I've been on this earth which is 16 years.
Finally the car pulled up.. We all ran toward it. My mom had to grab my little brother because his little 4 year old legs can't move that fast.
I woke up sweating and gasping for air. I had another dream about that day... The day Earth ended.... The day everything I knew was gone.
"Amelia, are you okay?" My mother asked concerned. "I heard you screaming from the other room, was it another nightmare?"
"Yeah, I can't get that day out of my head.." I sighed.
I've been having nightmares since we left on the space ship with all government employed people and their families. We all had the choice on where we wanted to go, most choose Mars but my family choose Saturn. Before we left the ship, we each got injected with a clear blue substance. I made a mental note to ask my father once we were settled in on Saturn.
When we arrived to Saturn, it was a lot different than expected... It was hot but not excruciating. What stuck out to me was the nicely build mansions all around us. A man with very dark skin named Marco introduced himself and told us how everything was. It turns out that they don't have a government and everything is 100% free. The population is about 15 people or so he said.
"Where's dad?" I asked my mom, remembering I wanted to ask him about the injection.
"He's in the living room," she replied, leaving my room.
I got out of bed and when down the white spiral staircase. The house was beautiful, all the walls white with hardwood floors. There are 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms; way more than our old house and definitely more than we needed.
When. I got down the stairs I seen my dad reading a book but once he heard me he put it down on his lap and looked up at me.
"Hey,honey" he said. " are you okay? "
"Yeah... I just wanted to ask you something.."
" what is it, dear? " he asked concerned.
"It's about that injection we got when we were on the ship," I said slowly. "What was it?"
"It's just a vaccine the government has been secretly working on for the end of the world," he answers. " it basically makes us able to survive on a foreign plant like Saturn."
"If we can survive in extreme conditions then why couldn't we stay on earth?" I asked.
" because it was going to be completely destroyed; there was no use,"
I sat down next to him and pushed a pillow against my chest.
"I miss home," I sighed.
"We haven't even been gone for a day yet," he argued.
"I know but it's hard to believe nothing is ever going to be the same..."
"I know kiddo, I'm sorry about that," he gave me a half smile.
"Well I should probably try to go back to bed," I sighed standing up. "It's pretty late."
"Okay goodnight," he said giving me a kiss on the cheek.
"Goodnight," I replied.
I couldn't fall asleep at all. So I decided to go for a late night walk instead. As I walked outside I could feel the warm night air hit my face. It was beautiful out, I could see all the stars in the sky and I could even see every single planet in the universe. There was never this kind of view on Earth.
"What's a beautiful girl like you doing out so late?" A deep voice asked from behind me, causing me to jump and almost lose my balance.
I turned around to find a 19 ish year old guy wearing only boxers. His six pack chest out in the open for everyone to see. His short curly black hair blowing in the wind. The moon was complementing his light blue eyes and olive color skin. He looked so beautiful. There was definitely nothing like him out Earth either.
"Is that really your business?" I asked playfully.
"Of course it is, no girl like you should be walking this late... It's dangerous," he smirked.
"I disagree, how can something happen when only 10 people live here?" I retorted.
"It's 15 actually."
"I know that i was just making a point," I snapped.
He was slightly irritating me with his know-it-all voice .... Or maybe I'm just too tired to deal with this shit.
"well I should probably head back," I said.
"You probably should," he said. " I'll see you around."
"It'll be hard to miss me considering there isn't many of us," I forced a smile.
I walked away before he could respond, feeling his gaze on my back but not turning to check.
