"Please don't do this," I beg through the bars of the cell. "What happens when my parents get back!" He laughs before turning back to me. He stares at me with a look I can't quite decipher.
"Your parents won't be back until you're gone." I stare with a bewildered look. "They left because you are a runt. You look bad on this pack , on your family. They will never think of you of someone who will do any good in this world."
He calls someone else in. They start talking about another alpha coming to visit. His son, now twenty, still hasn't found his mate and now is looking for a second time. We are the last stop on their trip before the son goes home to be alpha.
I look at my wrist where a small crescent moon has appeared. They say you get a mark somewhere on your body when you find your mate, or you are close to them. Everyone the guards, even The Alpha, has told me that I do not have a mate, and even if I did he would reject me right away.
It has been a few hours before the guy Alpha Thomas talked to walked back into the cells. I could hear whistling and the clanging of the keys before I saw him. I've never seen the man before today. He walked over to my cell before opening it and pulling me out.
As we walked more smaller dots appeared on my wrist. Depending on how close you are to your mate it changes colors to match their mood. When you are marked it will do it no matter how far away you are from each other.
"My mate won't stand for this, you know," I yell at the man that is man-handling me to walk up the stairs and through the door at the top.
"You don't have a mate. You never will have a mate. Hell, you can't even shift! You have no purpose in this world or the next." Opening the doors, the moon is bright and full, almost overhead.
How long have I been down there? If I can't have a mate why do I have the marks? Everyone else has a mate, right?
Walking down the path I can see a golden glow from where that pack holds meetings. The soft mummer of people reached my ears before I saw the pack. I could pick out what the others were saying with my hearing. There was one that stuck out the most.
The Alpha's Daughter. "Finally, I've been telling Daddy for awhile now that the runt was no good. Plus if Alpha Landon doesn't find his mate, Daddy said he's going to see if I could mate with him." For some reason I got really upset, then really mad at what she was saying.
I could hear others talking about a beheading. I start trying to break out of the mans grip. I scream and struggle as he pushes me forward until we meet up with another man. This one with a needle.
A small, sharp prick goes in my neck making me become a dead weight. I can't scream, I can't fight, I'm going to die either way. There is no way of getting out of this.
I could feel them moving me around, with my hand feeling wood underneath me, everything fades away. I could hear the click of chains as they are dragged over to me. I could feel the rubber gloves and then the sizzle of the silver where it touched my arm. A small whimper escapes from my lips.
All my senses came back then. It came through, a strong smell pulled through the air tugging at me to follow it. But the smell of burning flesh pulled me out of the trance I was in.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the Redwood Pack and the Black Sun Rising Pack, we welcome you to witness the death of someone who has brought us nothing but misery." I tried to pray to the Goddess of us for help, something I haven't done in a long time. "This runt is nothing. This thing can not do do anything for this pack. When members of our pack found out it was a runt they left. It's own parents left because they did not want it."
Murmurs are let out through the crowd. Everyone knew this was coming, right. Well, of course not, surprise to all of us. I didn't know either.
Alpha Thomas puts his hand up as if to say 'get ready'. Right before he can put his hand down someone yells out. Because everyone stops what they are doing, whoever yelled out must be important.
With being tied to the ground with silver, I can't lift my head enough to see who's running through the crowd. The thud of someone jumping on wood. I can't see the person, but I can hear the Alpha's daughter telling the person to get down making me think it is the other Alpha's son. Why would he stand up for me?
"Let her go," his voice comes out demanding and strong. A shiver goes down my spine. The person who tied me down comes back and unties me. From how they had me tied, I collapse to the ground.
"Son, it is nothing but a runt who can't do anything for you," Alpha Thomas's voice is confused and a little bit irritated.
"I don't care that she is a runt. I care that she is safe and well taken care of," the man walks over to me and sits down before pulling me to him. After that I can't remember anything and everything goes black.
