"Clay, open the vault! We don't have time to play around!" Charlie demanded as he was emptying his magazines to put new armor piercing cartridges in it. "Okay, fine. On three." I said as I unpacked grenades and put them into my holsters. "1...2...3!" We all found cover as the door opened. When it opened we heard nothing. Then, we started hearing loud screeches and running towards us. We then got out of cover and started killing them one by one. After we had killed about 10 or 15 of them we had cleared the first corridor of the vault. We went ahead and got into the elevator to descend into the next level. We were expecting a breach and clear kind of firefight but it was more of a defensive fight.

When the elevator opened we knew exactly what to expect and how to deal with it. We always let them come to us, that way we can take down multiple hordes at once. Level after level; corridor after corridor we cleared out the "vaulters" and finally were ascending to the experimental chambers. None of us knew what to expect. The worst part was we were to kill everyone, including the survivors. When we got down to the chambers, we changed our game. When the door opened our mercenary (Charlie) was spreading bullets like a wildfire! We followed behind him checking all around us. He did most of the killing, and we did most of the defending. Once we got to the corner of the corridor, we all played Charlie's game. Each one of us starting shooting at the hordes coming at both sides of the corridor.

I heard a scream, and I looked behind me. "Brandon!" I yelled as I fought off vaulters. He looked at me and I knew it was over. "Clay, promise me you will kill all of them." He barely managed to whisper out. "I promise." I replied with tears in my eyes. He looked at me, and mouthed out "Bye." as he died. I got up. I had to carry out the mission. I made a promise, and I was going to keep it.

When we finished clearing out the vaulters in the corridors, we made it to the laboratory. This is where it all happened. This is what made these "things". This is what made Brandon die! We walked in expecting the fight of our lives, but it was even worse. In the corner, there was a hole. And not a little one. We looked in it, and seen sunlight shine down into it. They had escaped the vault!
