15. The Happiest Day...

In the next three weeks, I made wedding plans with Mama and Erza and the other girls while Simon and other members of the guild made it a contest to see who could break my locket. Some of the attempts were funny to watch, but the one that broke my heart was watching Wendy try. I tried to talk her out of it, her magic was for healing, not destruction, but she insisted.

"I'm the one that gave you the locket Katie. I should have known it was dark when I touched it, so I'm going to try and help you be free from Akio," Wendy told me, patting my head lightly. Her attacks where ruthless and faster than when Simon had tried. The whole guild watched in silence as her magic power drained in front of us all. Romeo finally stepped in when she began to sway and placed a hand on her shoulder. Wendy froze and looked over to me. She grit her teeth and threw one more attack at the locket. It shook like it was going to shatter, but it only popped open.

The pictures of Mama, Papa, me, and Kyle started back at us happily. I bent over and click it close angrily. Something that was supposed to make me happy had made me so incredibly mad. I clutched it tight in my fist and ice began forming around it. I stood there glaring at the chain until I finally turned and threw it against the guild wall. The chain broke off of the locket and cracks formed over the heart. The guild watched in amazement as the cracks quickly disappeared and the chain reconnected to revel a perfect locket. Simon and Papa were the first ones to rush over and examine it.

"Have you seen anything like this Gray?" Simon asked. Papa paled and turned to me quickly.

"Katie, did Akio tell you about his parents?" he asked in a soft voice. I gulped and thought back to when Akio had captured me.

"Yes," I whispered. Papa took long strides towards me and gripped my shoulders tightly.

"Did he tell you the whole story? Beyond what we told you of Ultear," Papa questioned harshly. I shook my head no. Papa's grip tightly for a moment, then he loosened. He looked over at Mama who walked over as well. She grabbed my arm and began leading me away.

"I think it's time we talked about this. Simon, you come too," Mama said firmly. Simon didn't object and followed us to Mama and Papa's house.

"Sit down. Both of you," Mama ordered. We sat down like children waiting for a punishment as Mama and Papa stood in front of us.

"You already know everything that happened with Ultear before I killed her husband in the dark guild," Papa started. "But we left out some bits in an effort to protect you. The more you knew, the more at risk you were. Especially when you were younger.

"Shortly after Kyle was born, I went on a mission with Natsu, Erza, and Jellal to stop a dark guild that had been terrorizing numerous towns. Ultear and I hadn't spoken in many years, and it was a surprise when I found her in a town near the guilds cave with a five year old boy and a baby boy. She had no idea what her husband was really doing. After the fight, Ultear learned who her husband really was. She was sad at his death, but not to the point of suicide. Her son Hiroto, the five year old, became enraged at his fathers death. His magic, a strange mixture of time control and conscious control, became uncontrollable and Ultear took the brunt of it to protect the baby, Jirou. Hiroto ran away before we could stop him. Ultear was left holding Jirou and crying. She begged us to go after him and make sure he was taken care of. Natsu was the first to run after him with Erza close behind. Ultear took her last breath, but not before handing Jirou to me  and asking me to care for him."

"When Gray came home with the baby boy, I knew we couldn't keep him and Juvia and Lyon were having trouble having children at the time. We suspected that he had ice magic, so we gave him to them to take care of," Mama input.

"What happened to him? The only child of theirs I know is Kichiro," I interrupted.

"Yes. We all decided it would be best to change his name in case Hiroto came looking for his baby brother later. A dark power possessed him that night and he became much more mature than he should be. A few weeks later he came to find me. He walked right through the guild doors and threw an attack at me. It was weak and I easily countered it with ice magic. He was fascinated with it and even more so when you tried to mimic me. You were only three at the time, so your magic was weak, but you did produce a burst of ice. He quickly disappeared and that's when we became scared of him. We didn't know what he would do and knew that we had to protect you at all costs. So when you were six I set out to find him. It was agreed I would return in one week no matter what. I ran into Hiroto who informed me that he was now going by Akio. Before I knew it I was in Edolas with no way home and you know the rest of the story," Papa finished the story by taking a seat next to Mama who had already sat down. Me and Simon sat in stunned silence.

"So that's why he's after Katie? Revenge?" Simon asked in a low tone, his fingers curling into a fist. His eyes were burning in a way that I had never seen. He was always so cool and collected. Papa and Mama nodded in sync and Simon angrily stood. He looked over the room for something to hit. I threw a pillow towards him and he violently flung the offending object against the wall. "I won't let him do it! I won't let him take her for his enjoyment!" Simon looked back down at me and his expression softened slightly. He grabbed my arm and pulled me out of me seat, dragging me towards the door.

"Simon! What are you doing?" I demanded, trying to pull away.

"We're getting married. Right now. Before he has any chance to ruin this for us," Simon insisted. He loosened his grip on my arm and looked back at me. I was smiling at him while my parents followed us out. Mama paused and went running back into her room. We all stopped and waited, curious to see what she was doing. She came running back out with a wedding dress, carefully wrapped in plastic.

"I was going to give this to you anyway, if you wanted. Since this is all happening so fast, I decided you might want it anyway," she explained placing the dress in my arms. It was hers. I recognized it from the few pictures that were taken.

"Mama. I-I don't know what to say. It's your dress. Are you sure?" I asked. Mama nodded.

"Of course! You're my daughter. My only daughter. My mom use to show me her dress and promise I would get to wear it one day, but we never got that chance," she insisted. I hugged Mama, the dress getting in the way, and she hugged back.

"Now hurry. We can't delay at all or else he'll be here," Mama insisted pushing us out of the door and to the church.

"Wait for me!" a voice yelled behind us. We all turned to see Kyle running up the street towards us.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"I'm not missing my sister's wedding!" he insisted running straight to hug me. He released me quickly. "But we gotta hurry. Akio's coming. We found Lexi with him and Loke showed up to tell me about your wedding at the wrong moment. Kass is stalling them, but she won't last for long. Let's go!" Simon took my hand and we went running through the city.

"I have to get my parents. Go get ready," Simon told me. I kissed him quickly before continuing with Mama, Papa, and Kyle. The bishop was more than happy to preform the quick ceremony for us and Mama helped me get dressed. My hair was brushed out and she sighed at it.

"I wish we had more time to do something with it, but I suppose this will have to do," she said. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and smiled. Mama's dress was princess style, with a train and long veil. Not something I would have chosen myself, but I didn't complain. I added a few frozen decorations here and there, but kept it mostly the same. Papa knocked on the door and popped his head in.

"Simon's here with the guild. We're ready," he said. He had been forced into a suit and tie that I assumed Mama had grabbed before we darted out the door. Mama hugged me and kissed my cheek and then I was holding Papa's arm and walking towards Simon. Everything was a blur, but it was simple and nice. We repeated the vows without taking our eyes off of each other. I put a ring on Simon and he placed one on me.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride," the bishop said. We wasted no time kissing each other quickly. The guild burst into cheers and clapping, but it was cut short as the doors to the church opened and Kass stumbled in. Kyle ran to her and caught her before she fell.

"Akio. He's here. Run," Kass urged looking at me. "Run!"
