"How bad did your mom bust you over wrecking Sean's car?" Emily asked Hanna.

"Okay, I did not wreck it," Hanna said. "I damaged it. And actually, everyone's being really mature about it."

"Oh."

"There's no 'oh'. We're just being grown-ups. That's all."

We stopped in front of the bench in the middle of town where the busiest street could clearly see. "Okay, so the town is gonna put in a new bench," Aria said. "And we'll plant the flower beds and there's gonna be a pathway of art tiles."

"Art tiles?" Spencer asked, sitting down on the old bench.

"Mm-hm."

"Messages, pictures, memories of Alison," I said.

"Oh, like little headstones," Hanna said.

"Hanna!" Aria said.

"What?"

"We could each do a tile," Emily told us.

Hanna started to dig through her bag. "You know, I've had Alison's bracelet since we've found it in the woods, and I don't want the responsibility anymore."

'I don't want it," Aria said.

"Okay, seriously, somebody take this," Hanna told us.

I reached out and took it. "Look at us. Bunch of babies." No one said anything, and I sat down on the bench next to Spencer. "You know, there's nothing that A can say or do to get us into trouble without making trouble for herself."

"Are you sure it's a her?" Hanna asked.

"Well, him, her, it doesn't make any difference," I told her.

I put the bracelet into my jean jacket pocket as Spencer reached into her bag and got out her laptop. "What are you doing?" Emily asked.

"I'm gonna block all messages from people that I don't know," she answered. "IMs, texts, emails, everything. Screw A." There was a beeping. "There." She smiled and looking up at us. "Who's next?"

Emily came closer, taking the laptop and I got up to let her sit, and I saw Mr. Fitz riding on his bike down the street. "I spy with my little eyes something that starts with F."

Hanna waved. "Hey, Mr. Fitz."

He waved back at us, and I called, "Looking good, Mr. Fitz."

There was a beeping sound from the laptop again and Aria went up next to Emily, Spencer standing up. "My turn."

"You know, there are teachers you don't wanna see on a bike, and there are teachers you do wanna see on a bike," Spencer said.

"Hanna," Aria said, handing the computer to Hanna.

"I would not wanna see Mr. Galorari on a bike," Hanna said, taking it and doing what Spencer, Emily and Aria had.

"I don't wanna think of Mr. Galorari in motion of any kind," Emily said, and Spencer, Hanna and I chuckled.

"Ugh," I said, shaking my head. "Mr. Fitz."

"Dakota," Aria said. "Your turn."

I sat down next to her on the bench again, taking the laptop from Hanna and started the process while Spencer asked Emily, "You talk to Ben?"

I looked up, remembering the fight in the girls' locker room, and Emily said, "Nothing to talk about."

"So you're really done?" Aria asked.

"It's okay. I'm fine."

"Okay. If you say so."

I sighed, looking down. "I wish we had a drum roll for this." Aria chuckled. "All right, here it goes . . ." The computer beeped and I smiled. "We are offically A-proofed. "
