"You don't need to do this" a woman's voice says raspy and frightened. It's blurry, only shadows are visible.
"It doesn't have to come to this Amber" a dark and deep voice says "but you have to hand over him" the blur moves closer to the woman on the ground.
"Never" the woman spat "He will one day end this nonsense, you and your terrible kind will be no more!" The other blur let's out a dark chuckle and clenches its fists, when it opens them back up a bright light appears. The woman tries to back away from the man but he
gets slapped and flips on her stomach. The loud screams of pain pierce my ear. The man grabs the woman by her neck with his other hand glowing in the blur. She struggles to get out of his hold but the light grows brighter and he pushes the glowing orb of light into her heart. She lets out a scream of intense pain then her body goes limp. The man lets go of her neck and she falls. The lifeless body hits the cold ground without any sign of life."Ring...ring...ring" the bell sounds and I wake up startled and out of breath. Kids get up out of there seats and walk out of class talking in there little groups. I wipe some sweat off my forehead.
"What the hell was that?" I asked myself. "It's the same thing every time" I gather up my stuff and walk out of the class. I keep having slight flashbacks to the dream. I get to my locker, puts my books in my bag, grabs my AC-DC hat that I got from a concert I went to a few years ago and walks out of the school. I feel around in my pockets for my car keys. I feel the cold metal touch my hand and it reminds me of the dream how the woman's lifeless body hitting the cold floor. I shake my head, pull out the keys and gets in the car. I push the car key into the slit and turn it forward, the engine stutters a few times. I press on the gas peddle and tries again. It eventually starts up with a thud in the front and I pull out of the school parking lot. I drive back to the orphanage and pulls up into a parking spot in the parking lot. When I get out I see a a car parked across the lot, I've never seen this car before but I ignore it and walk to the front doors of the orphanage. When I open the doors I see two people sitting at the front desk going through the adoption papers. I see them find my paper but they keep looking. My heart sinks and I go upstairs to the second floor and goes into my bedroom. I drop my bag on the ground and keys on top of a small table with a lamp on it next to my bed. I walk out of my room, down the hall and into the bathroom. I turn on the water and gets in the shower. The steam brings me back to the dream, the air begins to to go cold. I close my eyes and and take a deep breath. The screams of the woman still linger in my mind, the lifeless body and the regret in her eyes as her last breath escapes her mouth. A knock at the door makes me jump a little and I get out of the show, dries off and puts cloths on. I open the door to see a little boy. His name is Dylan. "ASHER ASHER GUESS WHAT" he says with excitement in his 7 year old voice. I lean down to him with my hands on my knees "what's up buddy" he jumps at me giving me a big hug
"I'm going home with someone today Asher!" My heart stopped for a second, it felt like a weight was put on my shoulders and chest. I was happy for him but Dylan was like a brother to me, I have raised him from the first day he came here. "That's amazing Dylan." I say forcing a smile hugging him back. "I'm so happy for you."
"Thanks Asher." he looks at me "Are you alright?"
I take a deep breath then put a smile on my face "Yes, I'm more than ok, I'm super excited for you. Now come on we need to get your stuff ready." I take his hand and lead him down to his room. I open up the door and he runs in. He grabs his small suitcase and I grab the bigger one that was to heavy for him to lift and put it on his bed. He was scrambling around the room going to fast filled with excitement. I smiled as I watched him throw clothes into his small suitcase as I packed up his bedding and other few toys he had in the bigger one. He was rambling on about how happy he was but nervous at the same time. I put my hand on his shoulder and got down on my knees "You're going to be fine Dylan, in fact your going to be better than fine." He smiled at me and but then looked down "but that means I have to leave you, I'm going to miss you...¨
"I'm going to miss you too buddy." I hug him tight "But it's for the best, besides I'll come and visit whenever I get the chance ok." He nodded and hugged me back wrapping his arms around my neck. I let go and stand up zipping his suitcase closed "alright, are you ready to go on a adventure"
He nodded smiling "Yep." I hold his hand and I take his big suitcase while he takes a little suitcase and we walk downstairs together. When we got to the front lobby two adults waited there for us. A woman with brown hair and brown eyes that had a nice fleece jacket on and makeup. The other was a man with short black hair green eyes and a nice looking suit on.
"There he is" the man said
The woman gasps "he is even cuter than in the picture" they go to hug him but Dylan grabs onto my leg shyly. They looks at me "who are you?" The man says
I look down at him and back at the man "I'm Asher, I am practically Dylan's big brother here." I look down at Dylan holding onto my leg "don't worry Dylan is just a little shy with new people." The woman walks over and kneels down to him. She looks at him with a sweet smile "hey Dylan" she says in a gentle voice." He looks at her still holding onto my leg tight. "Sh sh sh it's ok Dylan" she thinks for a moment "hey do you like toys?" His grip loosens and he nods still scared. She smiles at him
"We have lots of toys at our home, a puppy dog and a big room just for you." He smiles "r-really"
"Mhm." He looks at her and and let's go of my leg. She smiles at him and gives him a hug. The man kneels down and joins in. I smile seeing Dylan with a new family. Makes me wonder if I ever had a family. I had to have one, but who. why did they leave me here alone. I have so many questions for them but I will never be able to ask them. The woman gets up from the hug and takes Dylan's hand, the man grabs his bags. They start to walk towards the door but Dylan pulls away from them and runs to me. I watch his run to me, he jumps at me giving the biggest and tightest hug I have ever felt him give. I hug back. For the first time I actually feel like I have a family, but that time will soon slip away when he leaves to live with his new family. A tear runs down his cheek wrapping his arms around my neck tight.
"I'll never forget you Asher." Those words broke my heart. I hug him tighter
"I'll never forget you either." I look at him and he looks at me
"Brothers forever?" Dylan says hoping to get me to say it
I nod "brothers forever."
Dylan runs back to his new mom and dad and they walk out of the orphanage and into the car waiting outside. I watch them leave before turning and going back to my room. Exhausting I flop on the bed. I stair at the ceiling trying to go to sleep, but I can't stop thinking about who and why my family left me. Why did they leave me here?Who were they? What did they look like? What were they like? After a few hours of thinking I soon pass out to my thoughts.Hey guys thanks for reading the book, I understand how long this chapter is but it runs through a lot in the story.
