Jacky's p.o.v.
Soon the school day was over and we waited outside for one of our Dads to pick us up. Mason was sitting against a tree, holding his arm. I assumed it was his cut up one. It pained me deeply to know he was in that much pain and that he felt he had to hurt himself. I sat next to him and pulled him into my lap. "Are you okay?" He nodded, but kept quiet. "What are you going to do when we get home?" I asked.
"Sleep." He whispered.
"Okay and later if you want help with homework, I'll help you." I suggested with a smile. He nodded and cuddled into me a bit more.
Andy walked over to us. "Dad's here." He said and gave a warm smile to Mason. Mason didn't seem like he wanted the smile from Andy, in fact he shunned away and cuddled into my chest more. I nodded at Andy and held Mason close, grabbing his and my bag, and then slinging them over my shoulder. I carried him into the van and sat with him as we drove home. When we finally got home, we greeted our parents, and then I took Mason upstairs.
I dropped his bag next to his bed, but kept mine on my shoulder. I laid him in his bed after pulling the blankets back. "You're gonna keep your promise, right?"
Mason looked down, "I can't keep promises." He said softly like a little kid in trouble.
I tucked him in. "Mason, please. Seeing you hurt hurts me. It hurts me so badly, you wouldn't believe. Please, promise me." He looked me in the eyes and nodded. I smiled softly and kissed his cheek. "Thank you." Something in his eyes told me he was lying, but I can't stay in here. I walked to the door, shutting off the lights. I watched him close his eyes and then I quietly shut the door. Seeing his eyes shut gave me hope that he would stay asleep for a bit, but I made a mental note to check on him every thirty minutes. I went down the hall and into mine and Jinxx's room. Jinxx was on his bed playing his violin. I could help but smile, he was so talented and looked peaceful when he plays it. I stood by the door watching him play for a bit. I leaned on the doorframe and heard his beautiful skills go at it on his violin. After a bit, I stepped closer to him and when he wasn't expecting it, I wrapped my arms around his waist. "Hey, little cousin."
"What are you doing, Jacky?" Jinxx asked as he ended his practice on a sour note.
"Hugging my younger cousin." I told him.
"Get off." He hissed.
"Oh, you love it!" I smiled.
He rolled his eyes and got out of my grip. He placed his violin back in its case and then faced me. "Why have you been so close to Masey recently?"
I bit my lip and shrugged. "Well, he's one of my newest cousins and I wanna get to know him more. As an added bonus, he's super cute."
Jinxx narrowed his eyes a bit. He clearly wasn't buying it. I've realized that Jinxx and I are the best at figuring out when someone is lying. I say it's because we are good at lying, so naturally we can tell when someone is doing the same. "Hmm, well, I feel like that could be a lie. Granted, he is cute, but there has to be something else going on."
I shrugged, "Nope, you're wrong, Jere-Bear." I smirked after I called him Jere-bear, knowing he hates it. I've realized all my siblings and cousins have nicknames they can't stand, but me being one of the oldest, I like to use it against them.
