Emi had always hated looking in the mirror, but she hadn't so much until the day she saw endless darkness in her reflection instead of herself. Well, it wasn't really darkness, she told herself, just a projection of my darkest feelings of regret, anger, and self-pity. The darkness would tell her things about herself. Things she never had heard from a single soul before. They'll never want to listen to you; you're so pathetic, it told her. Such a sad soul, yet no one seems to care. Eventually the words got to her, and she constantly felt deeply depressed. Emi had to put a forced smile on her face for her evanescent family... When they were around. They don't care about you; just like everyone else in this world. The darkness would whisper whenever she was alone, creeping into her mind in her most vulnerable moments like a cat about to pounce on its prey. You don't deserve love. Someone who is as pathetic and weak as you does not deserve the luxury of love. Over time she felt herself fall further into this impenetrable darkness from the inner depths of her mind, and the thoughts that passed only progressed further into the void.
No one cares; no one cares; no one cares.
Why would they, for someone like me? She thought back.
Exactly, life is the same whether you're there or not. No one cares.
So if I disappear...? She did not bother to finish because she already knew the answer.
Things would go on like nothing happened. Maybe better when you're no longer a burden for everyone. I'll say it once, and I'll say it again: You are not a necessary here, the darkness whispered to her savagely. It would be better if you just vanished, Emi.
