Another day, another bubble sheet. That's how it always was. Ever since Mark was adopted at the prime age of 7 years old. Everyday after breakfast he was given a 20 question long answer sheet with four choices, A, B, C, or D. There was no right or wrong answer, he was simply required to bubble in an answer for every row and then he was allowed to do whatever.
Him being the 27 year old person he was, he didn't question it, although it kind of annoying that he was still required to do it. So here he was, sitting in the same old room with a pencil in hand and a bubble sheet in front of him.
He was doing everything but filling out the bubble sheet, simply because he was bored. He knew that he could just get it over with and then do whatever he wanted but he had no plans today. He sighed, doodling on the desk instead of working on the sheet. He heard footsteps coming down the hallway, and he quickly bubbled the first three in random orders, trying to make it look like he was actually being productive. He kept his eyes on the paper, bubbling the fourth one and the steps passed the door. He sighed once they were gone, letting out a breath that he didn't know he was holding.
It wasn't like he was doing anything bad, it's just sometimes they would get a bit irritated if they didn't get the sheet in fast enough. He didn't know why the sheet mattered so much, and right now he didn't really care. That was, until he heard a tapping on the window.
He turned to face the window, his red hair getting into his face. He brushed it out of the way before hurrying over to the direction of the sound. There stood and man, about his age, anxiously looking around. He waved "Hi", giving a friendly smile before motioning for Mark to open the window. Mark did so, and the green haired man stuck his head through, staring at Mark with his bright blue eyes. Mark's own chocolate eyes surveyed the man before the man's Irish accent caught him off guard. "Excuse me? Are you the person who bubbles those answer sheets?" he asks, Mark being quite confused by the man's odd question.
He nods "Yes" anyway and the man lets out a sigh of relief. "Oh, Thank goodness. The names Jack, by the way."
He stuck out his hand and Mark grabbed it, introducing himself as well. "Um, who are you? If you don't mind me asking," Mark says, pulling his hand away, still quite confused.
The green haired man sighed, before surveying his surroundings again. Mark noticed that he did that a lot. "Look, I don't have much time before they'll realize I'm gone, so no interruptions."
Mark nodded. "Ok, First of all, as far as you're concerned, I don't exist. If anyone asks, you've never seen me, don't know my name, none of that stuff. Got it?"
Mark simply nods again, finding himself drawn in by this man mysterious behavior. "Secondly, you hold a lot more power than you think. I'll explain in more depth later, but be careful what exactly you bubble on that answer sheet. And thirdly-" Jack was cut off by the sound of more footsteps.
His eyes widened. "Oh, $h!t." He panicked, withdrawing his head, and starting to head off. He turns around. "Ah, one last thing. Shut the window and lock it. And don't bubble 16A."
With that, he ran, off disappearing into the trees nearby. Mark shuts the window and locks it, just like Jack asked. The door opened and he whipped around. "You done yet?" the man standing there asked.
"Um.. no. Sorry, I got distracted by something."
The man's eyes narrowed. "Something outside the window?"
Mark nodded weakly. The man stormed over to the window and looked around, but after being reassured by Mark that it was simply a squirrel the man left, seemingly satisfied. "Well, finish up that sheet okay?" the man says before shutting the door behind him.
Mark nodded and sat back at the desk quickly bubbling all of the answers. But when he came across question 16, he wasn't quite sure what to do. Should he follow that man's advice, and not bubble A, or should he ignore it. He flipped back in forth before deciding. He picked up his pencil and bubbled 16A.
