"Come on, slow down dammit. I need to hurry home." Olex slowly follows a deer as it walks down by the creek not to far from his grandfathers house.
Olex was used to having to hunt for his grandfathers dinner everynight, but for some reason he didn't understand he was having trouble stalking the deer. He could usually follow a deer no problem, but his feet didn't seem to listen to him and his eyes were having trouble staying open. He stumbles forward, tripping over a rock crashing to the ground bending his left arm in an awkward direction that sent pain shooting through his shoulder.
Shouting out in pain he tries to stand up and throw his spear, but he is to late. Once he gets back to his feet the deer is nowhere to be seen. Sighing with disappointment he walks over to the creek and sits down looking at a face that looks just like his dads had looked.
The short cropped chestnut hair was sticking out all over the place from all the work he has done throughout the day. His green eyes staring back with an almost dead look. Ever since his parents had died two years ago when there village had been raided by Dreadlers, he has had a look in his eyes that said he was never going to be happy again.
"I miss you dad. Why did you have to choose that day to send me out to go fishing? If only i had stayed I could have been able to protect you and mom." Olex stares at himself for a little bit longer before he decides to just walk back to the cabin.
He could give his grandpa the rest of his dried venison. He could go a night or two without eating, but his grandfather was getting weaker and needed to eat more food to keep himself as healthy as possible. Olex knew that his grandfathers time was coming to an end, but he wasn't going to let him die on an empty stomach. His dad had taught him to always value the children and elderly over the others, and so thats what he planned on doing.
As Olex slowly makes his way back to the cabin he notices smoke filling up the sky. He lets out another sigh, not wanting to have to go back into the cabin and break the news to his grandfather. As he is walking his leg locks up, causing him to crash down to the ground again. He lays there for a second, thinking maybe he just needs to let his muscles relax for a little bit. As he lays there he realizes everything has gotten really quiet. The sun is setting, but he doesn't hear any crickets chirping or frogs croaking, which was strange cause they usually drowned out all other sounds at this time of the day.
Sitting up, Olex realizes the smoke in the sky is now noticeably thicker and darker. Getting up as fast as he can manage he takes off in an awkward sprint and limp mix towards the cabin. As he gets closer he hears what sounds like laughter. He finally breaks through the lining of trees and comes into the clearing where the cabin is, or was.
Where the cabin once stood there was now just a giant ball of fire, the door caved in, leaving no entrances. Olex runs over and grabs a burning log. Ignoring the searing pain he pulls the log until it finally dislodges and crashes down to the ground. He goes to grab another log when someone speaks from behind him.
"Its useless, the old man is already dead. I made sure of that before I caught your cabin on fire." Turning around Olex sees a woman with long blonde hair, hang down to the middle of her back. Her voice is dark and flat, making her sound older than she looks.
"What do you mean you made sure he was dead? Did you start this fire? Did you kill my grandfather?" Olex, ignoring everything his father had taught him, lunges for the woman standing in fron of him.
Just as Olex was about to grab her, she just disappeared. He turns around quickly and sees her standing on a branch the tree by the house. She was atleast thirty feet in the air.
"One question at a time young man." She looks at him with a sinister smile on her face. "Since you asked I guess I will go ahead and tell you. Yes, I started this fire. And yes, I killed your grandfather."
The woman takes a step forward and appears right in fron of Olex. Before he can react she reaches out and pokes his chest. Immediately a sharp pain fills his chest and he flies back, hitting a tree hard enough to splinter the bark.
Looking up, Olex sees the woman kneel down in front of him. She reaches into a pocket on the side of her dress and pulls out a ring. She drops it in Olexs lap and stands back up looking down at him.
"The old man asked me to give this to you before I killed him." She watches as Olex puts the ring on his pinky before she continues. "I don't normally kill attractive young men, but my boss ordered me to kill you, Olex. Joseph didn't have to die, but he wasn't going to let me do my job. The boss said to take care of any obstacles as I see fit, so I decided it would just be best to take of him. But don't worry, for you will meet him soon. Out of courtesy I guess I can tell you my name. I am Aladria. Farwell, Olex Genswall."
Aladria puts her hand in front of Olex's face making a fist. She loosens her fist and flicks her index finger into his forehead, making his head snap back so hard that the tree splits all the way through. His skull being shattered, blood gushing out ofvthe wound in the back of his head. She sits there, watching the little light he had in his eyes vanish until they are dead and dark.
