It was the start of a new day and a new year. Maybe things don't have to be so hard this year. I hated that it was always so hard to fit into the social classifications that became the set standard for making friends. If I did not fit in, then I was done for. Three years ago, the accident, that I will never forget, destroyed my life.
My parents decided therapy, drugs, rehabilitation, and crazy homes were the fastest way for me to recover. It did not seem to work. So, they thought of something better- reform school. How hard could it be to fit into reform school? The kids there were as messed up as me- maybe even more so. My so called flaw is the irresistible connection I feel to the earth and nature, or just to the elements themselves.
"Honey, come down stairs," my mom called from the kitchen, "the plane takes off in about twenty minutes and you don't want to be late for the first day of school." I rushed to make sure I had all my belongings. My cellphone, computer, and my iPad. Yep, the basic essentials for surviving boredom and social suicide. I am able to keep track of my favorite celebrities and forget what a total loser I was. "I am coming," I stated as I ran down the stairs with the last of my luggage. Both my parents were currently standing on the drive way, both wearing impatient masks of annoyance.
Three hours later, I had finally arrived in the middle of nowhere- the reform school my parents were oh so happy to send me to. "Miss Caitlyn Higgs, please follow me, so we can get you settled before school starts," the attendant stated, "Also any electronics are forbidden on school grounds, so please turn those into the office before the end of the day." "WHAT?!" I screamed, "That's taking away a basic human right." "No further arguments- for this is not up for discussion, Miss Higgs," he calmly stated. He continued to lead the way to my room, which was located on the campus.
On the way, I was able to see part of the school, and it was huge. There seemed to be four different dorm sections, including private bathrooms for each room. There was also located on the premises was a huge house that was secluded from the rest of the school. I also glimpsed the school buildings, which looked modern and clean. Located to the left, there was a huge forest. The whole school seemed to be kept cleaned and organized, as if they were classifying something.
I was led to the dorms that were located right next to the classrooms and further away from the rest of the living dorms. Odd, I thought to myself. We entered the dorms, and it was really quiet. Everyone was still asleep.
The attendant suddenly stopped causing me to stumble into his back. "Miss Higgs, we have arrived at your living quarters," he stated and left. I entered the room and saw clean, organized area. There were two beds, and the bathroom located to the far left. It seemed that I had a room mate, and she was taking a shower.
I decided to unpack my things and put them into their respectful drawers. After, I collapsed on the bed and fell asleep.
