Chapter One

This road trip is so needed. Senior year was hard and stressful, and I was so ready for it to be over. Now it's time to move on and start a new chapter in my life. Most chapters start with an unforgettable vacation, and that's exactly what my best friend and I are doing.

We are about halfway through Pennsylvania when I decide that I am so sick of listening to radio commercials. Being obsessed with every genre of music, it always takes me forever just to look through all of my CD's. I have everything from the High School Musical soundtrack to every Journey album ever made. I finally decide on a new British boybands cd. They're a great mix of pop and rock, which is perfect for riding in the car. I don't know much about this band but I love their music.

"What the fuck is this?" Maddy looks over at me with disgust. She's a huge fan of The Fray, and obviously doesn't like my choice in music. She starts to quickly look for my CD case, probably trying to change it. I grab my case quickly off the floor and hold it tight.

"Just listen to it and shut up!" I tell her. She huffs but none-the-less stops and focuses on driving.

"Dude you know I don't want to listen to this shit."

"Just trust me for once in your life, they aren't that bad."
About ten minutes later, I catch her quietly attempting to sing the words, but once she sees that I am observing her, she immediately stops.

"They're good, aren't they?" I look over to her and read her face for the real truth. Once I see the grin she is suppressing I add, "See, I told you so." She laughs again and suddenly turns to me and yells, well yells with the tune of the music, right on que.

"BABY I LOVED YOU FIRST", we both die of laughter.

The dark comes fast, and I suggest that I can drive whenever she wants me too. But Maddy thinks I'm a terrible driver and that I shouldn't have been able to get my license. I blame her critiquing on the fact that she always has driven like a grandma. It's just an ongoing fight between us.

I reach down for my phone when out of the corner of my eye I see the brightest pair of headlights coming right for us. Then everything goes really dark.

My head is pounding, and my seat belt is so tight around my waist I can barely breathe. I open my eyes and notice Maddy's car is on its complete side, me being on the side against the ground. She is hanging above me, with just the seat belt holding her up, arms dangling. I go to reach for her, but I am unable to move. My voice doesn't want to work either because I try to yell for help, but I fail. I lean my head against the window to look for some kind of comfort. All I hear in the background is a cd slowly skipping and on a loop until nothing..

Someone is touching me, feeling my face. Two fingers are pressing hard against my sore neck.

"I've got a pulse," the someone yelled behind them.

My head is still leaning on the window, and I try to move again but I can't. The someone is pulling at my seatbelt that is so tight, but they finally free me and I can actually breathe normal again. I attempt to work my voice box for the hundredth time today.

"Where is my friend?" I say way too calmly.

"We got her love, don't worry about it." His very thick Irish accent spoke so smoothly. He yanks me carefully from Maddy's car, and jogs away from the scene carrying me bridal style.

I drag my bruised hand across his dark scruff, and observe him closely. This man is very attractive, the dark hair and muscular body accompanies his accent so nicely. I am internally grateful to him, whoever he is.

"Thank yo..."

I wake up with cracked lips, and my throat is as dry as the desert. Where am I? I pull the mysterious red curtain to the side that separates me from the rest of the room. I notice a small blond toddler crying for a woman who is on the phone. She talks through the phone, while quietly shushing the little girl who is now attached to her leg with a hard grip. Once the call ends, she looks down and picks up her daughter, I assume. She looks over to my bed and makes eye contact with me. The woman is very beautiful. Her tattooed body flows so well with her lavender colored hair.

"You're awake! How are you feeling?" she asks while kneeling down next to me.

"I'm feeling a lot better, but I have no idea what happened," I tell her.

"We still aren't quite sure either. We were headed down the road when the driver noticed your friend's car. It was on its side and about 100 feet off the road. Our tour manager, Paul, quickly ran out and retrieved your friend, then you," she says with a sympathetic look. "We had our doctor fix you up when you were passed out. Nothing major is wrong, a few cuts and bruises. Unfortunately, the car that hit you is gone," she said as she touches the bandage on my forehead. I wince at the small pain. She just mouthes a 'sorry'. Her motherly instinct is astonishing, I can just tell by the way she is acting with me, she must be a great mother.

"How long was I passed out?"

"About two days."

"Where's Maddy?" I say while I look past her after hearing a sound come from the room in the back.

"She's not on this bus. She's on the other one with the guys. She woke up just yesterday."

I hear footsteps and look over to see the mirror on the back of the bus move on its own, almost as if it was a sliding door. Behind the mirror is a tall handsome guy with a shit ton of tattoos and the ugliest boots that I have ever laid my eyes on.
