Silver

Red, red, red, red. All around me. A scream escaped my mouth, cracking the built up silence in the air. Opening my eyes, I realized it had been another nightmare.

Sweat dribbled off my chin so I wiped it off with the back of my hand. Ever since I'd entered that fancy boarding school, I'd had unimaginably terrible nightmares.

~ I still remember my first day. ~

Lightning tore across the sky as puffy, dark clouds filed in. Every now and then, shivers traveled up and down my spine, reminding me what was happening.

In front of me stood a tall, nerdy boy. I forced a smile on my face. I wasn't going to make any enemies on my first day. Not even him.

He snorted, "Welcome to Capital Bridge Boarding school, I am your guide for the day." The boy paused, staring at the trees behind us. After a what seemed like hours, he continued, "My name is John Cloree Lust. What, may I ask, is yours?"

"Silver." I replied brushing him off while I walked toward Capital Bridge school. It was magnificent.

Banners with golden crowns on them covered the outer walls in front of the entrance.

A flag decorated with blue and gold streaks stood at the top. I could hear a rustle and hard breathing behind me.

"Wait, Silver! I... I...  have to... show you... around" He huffed.

John placed his hands on his knees; gasping for air. He needed to work out more.  Especially since he hadn't jogged more than ten feet.

"I can look out for myself." I assured.

I was wrong.

The next few days I got lost, laughed at, and pushed to the bottom of the "Who's Got the Best Grades" list. This school isn't afraid to post your grades on a bulletin board.

Anyway, I can't take any more bad flashbacks.

I looked around the dark room. All my room mates were sleeping soundly despite my constant screaming. They were probably used to it by now.

Twisting, I slipped into my slippers and walked toward the patio. Although this school seemed so perfect, it was definitely going to be a difficult ride for me.

Ever since I arrived, everyone hated me. Even all my teachers despised me. Well, except for old Mr. Canid who couldn't even remember anyone or anything farther than the past twenty minutes.

"Nobody hates you. It's just that- " I cut off whoever was speaking.

Recognizing the voice I whispered, "Candice? That's you, right? You're awake..." Mumbling the rest, I looked back at the stars.

Everything seemed so clear for once. The black sky, the marble-like moon, and the gleaming stars. Closing my eyes, I felt the soft breeze carrying away the burden on my shoulders. No more problems.

"Silver, I know you love the outdoors, but it can't solve your problems."

I turned towards her so quickly, I could see her dark figure jump back.

"Stop it! Stop reading my thoughts!"

Walking backwards, I covered my head. It almost felt as if she was feeling around in there. What is with this school and weird people with powers?

Continuing to shift back, I felt the cold stone wall of the patio grind against me.

"Don't overreact.  It's not like this is the first time I've read your thoughts. If you haven't noticed, I've been doing it for a couple weeks."

Anger bubbled inside of me. I was the only one there without any special abilities here.

"Well, if you haven't noticed, I don't like having people snoop inside my brain!"

Candace snickered and strutted back to her perfect bed, with her perfect life.
