I'm going to try to explain how paranoia feels to People like me who have it.
Imagine that someone is in front of you. You can't see them, they are like a memory. Now, they are behind you. If you turn around, you can stop them from attacking you, only as long as you look at them. But they are on both sides of you, in front and back. You could close your eyes, but then they are on all sides, and now you have no idea where they are. You are helpless and no one can see them. They are always there and they can't leave. They don't want to.
This is how paranoia feels to me.
