After stepping out of the portal, his robe ashen, smoldering, he brushed them off and held up his prize to the light. It pulsed and glowed with a fiery light, warm to the touch. It was the essence of a next to mythical creature; the Blaze. He smiled, for with advancing technology, it was hard to even find these creatures, the spawners being harvested and used for commercial interests. Luckily, he had kept a spawner in secret, for this very purpose. He head home, making sure to keep the rod a secret in the folds of his robe. He opened the door to his home, and he called out to his wife. She entered the room, looking anxious.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Yes. How's the baby?"
"Don't change the subject. I'm worried about you."
"I know, but trust me, It'll be fine. I'll have other people helping me."
"You mean other people wanting to get in on what you're doing."
"Yes, but they're also helping."
"Okay, but are you positively sure you'll be okay?"
"Nothing's 100%, especially with this cursed Eldritch magic, but I'm positive that nothing will go wrong. I've taken every possible measure to make sure everything's safe. Trust me, I'll be fine."
His wife pondered for a few moments. "Fine. Please remember to leave a message so I know you're alright."
"Will do," he said as he turned and walked to his magic room. He took his pestle and mortar and ground the rod, crushing it into a coarse powder. He then opened a drawer to find the pearl of a Tall One. He took it out and set it on the table. He then picked up the mortar and tipped it over to pour the powder onto the pearl. The pearl consumed he powder, and then when all of the powder was absorbed, the pearl emitted a flash of purple light. When the light cleared and the flash wore off on his eyes, he looked at the pearl to see it had transformed into a green eye. This was all he needed to perform Apertis Oculis, Opening the eye.~
The next day, he drove several miles to the last Eldritch Altar in existence. "Sorry I'm late," he said to the 3 others that were milling around, waiting for him. They greeted him and all four of them set off to work. After not very long, they had made the necessary preparations for the ritual. All of them stood at each corner of the altar, and he placed the eye on the center base. He tapped it with wand, and ran to his corner. Each of them drew a wand and held it out in front of them, then the altar drew airy light from each of the wands to the glowing, black sphere in the center of the altar, above the eye. First the light was yellow, then green, then red, then blue, then white, then black. When the sphere had stopped draining the four dropped their wands, and pulled out new ones, white with purple caps, in contrast to the old ones which were a wooden color with metallic-gray caps. The sphere suddenly turned pure black, so black that it was hard to look at. It then started expanding, and after a few minutes, the four all standing in their corners, it stopped, with a diameter of about 6 meters. The four stepped forward.
"Get ready, this trip is going to be interesting," he said. He could barely hear himself over the pounding headache and the loud whispers in his ear, telling him to turn back, this is a forbidden place. He didn't listen. He had hear these words plenty of times before. He pulled out a small note from his pocket, placed it in the ground, and jumped into the whole, only just as the whispers told him he will never return.Be back soon. -Sam XOXO
