Chapter One-
I looked up at the building. Another school, another town, another place. Having a father in the military didn't always prove to be the easiest of lives, but it certainly had a lot of benefits. One of those benefits did not include having to change schools every two years. First day at a new school was not a big deal for me, the only thing that made it more difficult was that it was my first day of my junior year. I never worried much about making friends, I was the social butterfly of my family. It was growing too attached I feared. I knew this year, I would have to say good-bye to my friends even if I wasn't going with my family to a new station this time. Everyone would be done with high school in two years and I, along with the rest of the senior population, would head off to their different colleges. Sometimes people would stick together and sometimes they moved to a different country all together. The two years would lead to my last heartbreak of grade school.
I felt someone tugging at my back pack and looked around to see my wallet in the hands of some girl barely up to my chest. She had dark red hair that was braided and tossed over her shoulder, yet still managed to go down to her knees, and freckles all over her face. She had curves, noticeable ones too, but she did nothing to try to enhance her beauty like most girls with her frame would.
"Your ID picture's pretty good, but mines better," the girl's high voice interrupted my assessment.
"Give me my wallet back!" I screamed at her.
"Not until you tell me your name," she demanded. In this situation, her height gave her an advantage. In a crowd this big, I couldn't bend down to grab my wallet without my butt touching someone else. I groaned and told her my name.
"Cool name. I'm Tab, short for Tabitha," she practically bounced as I grabbed my wallet back from her outstretched hands.
"And I'm Todd, Tab's brother who came over her to make sure she didn't get in trouble," he paused and looked at me. "And to say hi to her pretty friend."
I rolled my eyes at him and he just smirked. They could've been twins for all the similarities between them. He had the same icy blue eyes and dark copper hair as his sister, and even all the freckles. One major difference between them though, besides their gender, was their height. Where Tab was short, Todd was taller than me, and that was saying something because I was a girl whose height was six foot one. I hated being tall, but it wasn't something I could change so I just dealt with it.
"We're fraternal twins," Tab announced. Guess my earlier assumption was correct. "We look a lot alike, except his being a guy means he has some parts I don't and I have some parts he doesn't." My eyes widened at her bold statement, but she wasn't done yet. "He also has shorter hair and he's way, way, like uber taller than me." She emphasized this last point by lifting her arm and touching the top of his head. She barely succeeded in this and only did so by getting on her tip-toes. Todd bent down and rubbed her hair, imitating the motion.
"Don't touch my hair! You're gonna mess it up," she screamed at her brother. He plucked a chunk of hair out of her braid and said, "Too late." She glared at him and he shook his head.
"Ya know ya love me," he said shaking his hips and lifting his hands. I almost snorted out loud at the motion.
"You know I do, most unfortunately. Now stop dancing," she said. They both smiled at each other. It was oddly comforting watching their silly banter. My only sister was only thirteen years old and I had no brothers. I had no idea how I would act if I had a twin. I'd always wanted one though. Tab said she had to get to home base and asked me who my home base was. I got out my binder to get my schedule out, but my book fell and I had to bend over to get it. Just my luck too, because at that moment the crowd thickened and there was no way I would manage this without touching someone. Oh well.
