I open my eyes and shake the memory from my mind. The first time I told him I loved him. A spring day. We were lying in the grass at our spit a little way off of the beach. But now that's gone. Just minutes ago...
"Baby please listen..."
"Baby?! You think you can tell me that I'm not good enough for you then call me baby?!?! Hell no. You have no right."
"Ok. I know. But I need to figure out myself and what I want."
"I'll tell you what you want. Anybody but me."
"I fell in love with someone."
I bit my lip to hold back the tears.
"I don't think... that I... love you anymore..."
The tears began to fall down my face, leaving streaks in my cheeks.
"But maybe once I figure out everything... we could be together."
"So when this girl you're now in love with breaks up with you you'll come crawling back to me?! No. I won't be someone's second choice. If you walk out of that door, we're done. Forever."
I silently begged him to stay, to fight for me, for us.
"Goodbye."
I still can't believe it. Why did I believe him. He told me that I was the only girl for him. His only love. All of that is lies. I should have known. But I'm in love with him. His smile. His laugh. His personality. Everything. Was perfect for me. I never believed I was perfect until he said so.
And now I'm wondering if it was all just lies.
