Charlotte's POV

As I found a shady spot under a tree, I headed over to it. I spread out my blanket, and laid down on my stomach. I put my bag to my side, and I opened up Paper Towns. The sun peaked through the leaves just enough to warm me, but not burn me. It was 76 degrees outside, and springtime. My favorite time of year besides summer.  I was on Spring Break, and had the week ahead of me, for relaxation, and probably no fun. I know it sounds pathetic, but I don't mean it like that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dry, its just it's not my style, and it's unusual to see me being a party girl. I'm not "that girl". I don't drink, go to parties, and I don't dress slu--. Never mind.

I stared down at my book, and got into this "zone". Whenever I read, I tune out everything and forget about the world around me. My eyes traveled down the pages of Paper Towns and I relaxed. I zoned out and it was almost as if I were imagining everything that I was reading.

Before I knew it, I got hit in the head. My body moved from the impact and I rolled over on my side.

"Owww" I complained as I held my head as it pounded. My head felt like it was spinning around, and although my vision was blurry, I could make out a boy running towards me. I rubbed my eyes and saw that what had hit me in the head was a soccer ball.

"Oh my god!" The boy started. "I'm so sorry, I swear I didn't mean to hit you-- I'm sorry-- are you alright?" He went on and on. "How are you feeling- god I feel terrible; hitting such a beaut-" He stopped himself.

"I'm ok. It's ok." I replied. My vision readjusted.

"Here." He gave me a hand, and pulled me up. "Again, I'm really sorry."

"It's ok. Don't worry about it. "

He took a deep breath and sighed with relief.

"Ok, I should get going." I said. I went to grab my bag, but the boy beat me to it. He handed me my bag, and snatched my blanket before I could get my hand on it. He folded it neatly, and handed it to me.

"Oh, you didn't have to do that."

"I just feel bad." He said nervously and scratched his head.

"Forget about it. No worries." I took my stuff, and walked past him. He ran back to where his friend was waiting for him, and I heard them talking about me faintly.

"Dude!" His friend nudged him. "Looks like you found yourself a lady frienddd."

"Shut up. I have no idea what you're talking about."
I heard that and looked down a little.

"Come on. I sawwww how you were looking at her."

"I just felt bad, that's all. And besides, she's too pretty to ever like--"

"SO YOU DO LIKE HER!"

"Ah, I, no, never, never mind." He stuttered.

"Whatever." His friend made cookoo eyes.

I continued walking home.
