I held her in my arms, electricity shot through them where we came into contact, and checked her head and face for any wounds. She had a small cut on her cheek but nothing life threatening. But then I thought of the blow she took in her back. She might have cracked ribs. My heart clenched in fear for her. I don't know why but I felt the need to protect her. I gently laid her on the forest ground and lifter her top slightly to look at her back. There was a large red mark which was already beginning to swell. My heart beat faster in rage.

I wanted to make that guy pay. I wanted to rip his heart out and make him suffer for what he did. I immediately banished those thoughts. I'm not going to let that side of me dominate, I chidded myself. But I knew what he was planning on doing and I wasn't able to protect Ruby. It's my fault she's in this state. Guilt set in, making the back of my neck clammy.

I placed my palm over the spot where she had been kicked and focused my energy into healing her. A white light glowed under her skin from where my healing powers were working. That would help with pain and speed up the recovery process. When I was happy that most of the injury was taken care of I stopped and slowly picked her up again, the electricity back, and carried her out of the woods. When I reached the edge Jack was standing there with Amelia under his arm. She was Ruby in my arms and her face cracked and she started crying.

She ran over. "OH MY GOD!" she half screamed "Is she o-o-okay?" She hiccuped and her hands fluttered helplessly over Ruby's limp body.

"She'll be fine. She just hit her head."

She simply nodded her head, her face wet with tears.

"I'm so sorry Ruby." she whispered in Ruby's unconscious ear.

Jack walked over draping his arm over her shoulders and leading her away. I continued to carry Ruby. She was so light and delicate, but then again my advanced strength is probably doing most of the work here. I frowned down at her as we started the walk back to my house, guilt still flooding me. The walk was a very silent one, the only noises were out footsteps on the empty streets.

We were at my house after 20 minutes of walking. We stood outside for a moment as I tried to get my keys out of my pocket. My knee braced on the wall supporting Ruby's legs, my left arm holding her body and my free hand searching for my keys.

When I turned 16 my parents moved to Ireland, so when we arrived we didn't have to worry about waking them. I carried Ruby up to my room and lay her in my bed. I took her shoes and bag off before chucking them in the corner. Amelia walked in and kneeled on the floor next to Ruby.

"Don't worry Ruby, you'll be okay." she spoke to her quietly.

It touched my heart that she cared so much. I've never had someone speak to me with so much care. My parents were never fond of me. They were disappointed with what I was. They didn't believe that creatures like me existed and tried to force the badness out of me. They are very religious and went to extreme lengths so change what I was.

Amelia look her shoes and bag off and climbed in next to Ruby, hugging her around the waist.

I wished I was in Amelia's place. I went downstairs to the kitchen. Jack was in there helping himself to some food and squash. He looked around when I entered.

"You alright?" He asked.

I nodded and got myself a glass of water.

"I'm going to sleep on the sofa." He said simply.

"Okay, there are duvets and pillows in the airing cupboard under the stairs."

"Thanks."

I went upstairs and put my glass down in my bedroom. Amelia was already asleep. I smiled at how cute they looked together. They looked almost like sisters, accept Ruby's face was etched with worry.
