"Marry?"

"Yes dear. I'm afraid so. You see I heard some employees talk about their boss needing a wife, and you know our situation right? So I arranged a meeting with the CEO and told him of our circumstance. The contract only binds you to him for a year. I hope you'll understand Cassandra." My father said to me. I can't believe this is happening. I know my father didn't mean to invest in that company which turned out it was only a scam, but offering me as means of payment is way over the top. What kind of father would do that to his own daughter?

"Cass. You have a meeting with him tomorrow at 11:00. He says you're going to be discussing the terms of the contract."

My father looked at me with apologetic eyes, but i just stood there hoping this was all just a nightmare.

"Sure dad. If that's what you want." And with that i left him to ponder on what he just did.

This is unbelievable. I still could not get over the fact that he would sell me. This isn't the 1800's anymore. And now i'm stuck. Of course i have to marry him, or else my family loses the house and there is still the big possibility of my dad going to jail.

"Honey? Can i come in?" My mother said through the door.

"Sure mom. " i quickly wipe away my tears and stood up to hug my mother.
"Cass. I'm sorry. I tried to talk your father out of this, but he just would not budge. I hope you don't hold this against your father. He thought it was the best for you, and for us. " my mother said as i shook my head and took a huge sigh.

"Mom, i get that dad is doing his best to fix our problems but i just can't understand why he has to arrange something that would forever change my life."

"Honey."she says seriously. "If you feel uncomfortable, i can tell your father to take back what he said and just pull out of the contract. I want you to be happy. "

"No mom." I said making up my mind. 'I'll do this for you. "

She looked at me gratefully and hugged me before going out of my room.

"Well then." She says before closing the door. "You better start planning on what to do for your meeting tomorrow." And with that, she closed the door.
