It's rubbing off

My smile is brighter this way,
my dress flows smoother this way.

All I can hear is flirting and jokes
a mile filled difference from his previous chokes.

He sees me he smiles, he hears me he laughs,
the candy we have is broken in halves.

It's working, it's working,  my efforts have not vained, they've succeed,
I know now that this is all I really needed.

"You're beautiful, so beautiful" he whispers,
the first time I see in his eyes all these shimmers.

He's right, I am beautiful, and pretty!
it was so obvious, the change, and I thought myself witty!

I'll try again. I'll tell him again. This time he can't possibly say no. Not after it.
I look into his eyes, and swallow my fear to admit.

"Hey... I love you" I spit out at last.
He put his hand on my cheek. "I love you t-" he stops mid-sentence, his eyes hard and glassed.

No...NO... what have I done?
the white on my face rubbed off into none.

His hand, he touched me. He took the white with it.
Rubbing off, it's rubbing off...  along with my wit.

The white is rubbing off. My shield is rubbing off.
My confidence is rubbing off. My beauty is rubbing off.
My efforts are rubbing off. My mask is rubbing off...

I raise my hand to my mouth. No, no, the whites disappearing.
the black is stable and quickly regrouping.

My skin returns to the disgusting colour of nothing, black, black, black.
It's all coming back.

I watch as he steps back in disgust,
and slowly all my courage turns to rust

His eyebrows furrowed as he turns away.
It's hopeless... he won't even LOOK my way.

"You're disgusting".
"You look burnt all over".
"You look dirty".
"Blacks should stick to blacks"
"You'll only ever be fit to serve"
"You deserve the stones thrown your way".

Freak, I'm a freak, I crawl back like a prey,
to see two armed men point their gun at me like it was childs play.
