Chapter 1:
"Honey I'm home!" I called into the quiet apartment. Usually Angel would run up to me doing her best southern bell housewife impersonation but tonight she was unusually absent.
The boys had been on tour now for a couple weeks, leaving the apartment somber and lonely between just the two of us. On nights like this it was hard to imagine that it's ever as lively here as it usually is. I sighed, throwing my purse and car keys down on the front hall table and made my way to the kitchen to make dinner for one.
Lately I've stepped up at work and have taken on more responsibility and pay so I could now afford my own car and support myself. I didn't like feeling like a burden or like I needed to be taken care of so I politely declined the help the guys offered and told them I wanted to support myself. I knew I'd eventually have to give in but until the day we exchange vows and there's a wedding ring on my finger I want to make my own money and be independent for a while.
The microwave beeped at the same time as my cell phone and as I walked over to retrieve my TV dinner I checked my phone and found a new text from Avery, my other best friend besides Angel.
"Back in town and I need to see you! :)" it read. I smiled and quickly typed out a response as I sat on the couch and started flipping through channels as I ate.
"Come over, I'm lonely! :("
"Be there soon!" She sent back. I knew I had about ten minutes before she came bounding through the door without even knocking but until then I settled in to watch the evening news.
As I listened to the news anchor go on about a robbery recently I jumped, suddenly hearing a loud crashing noise outside. After mulling over all the possibilities for the sound in my head for a moment I finally got up and peaked around outside through the window. I thought maybe Avery was early but actually nothing was there. I squinted across the parking lot and saw a bunch of garbage cans laying on their side but nothing seemed out of the ordinary so I just shut the curtains and returned to my food.
Right on time the petit girl with her hair newly dyed black with blonde high lights, came flying through the door. In her usual dramatic fashion, she didn't even wait for me to get up, instead jumping into my lap and pulling me into a tight hug.
"Avery.. Can't. Breath.." I said and she finally let go, jumping back with a giggle and sitting beside me.
"How was Italy?" I asked.
"A-mazing!" She laughed. "Everything is so beautiful and rustic, I just loved the charm of everything there, the architecture especially." She murmured with a thoughtful face. For such a hyper girl, it was strange to see her talking about stuff as trivial to her as a bunch of buildings.
"Really?" I asked, smirking with a raised eye brow. "That's all you loved there?" A wicked grin slowly cracked through her serious facade and I saw a spark in her blue eyes.
"Okay so there were a LOT of hot guys." She gushed. "But there's one guy I liked in particular... We hung out a lot and now.. I actually miss him." She sighed, propping her elbows up on her knees and laying her chin on her folded hands.
"Details?" I grinned.
"His name was Nico.." She sighed, but this time with a smile. "and he's tan and built and sexy with short curly brown hair and big brown eyes but for once its wasn't just all about looks and attraction, he was genuinely nice to me." She said, biting her lip to hold back the smile. "He was so sweet and romantic and we went on so many dates, and he really just treated me like a princess, unlike guys here."
