It didn't take long for the cavalry to be called. Soon, Kate's whole front yard was full of people for the search parties. Billy and Jacob arrived soon after got off the phone with them. As soon as Jacob saw her, he rushed to her enveloping her in a hug. She pushed him away telling him she was fine but he hovered close to her the entire time so she knew he was there.

Harry Clearwater arrived a little while later with a truck full of werewolves. Kate ran up to the truck as they got out and started telling them what happened. Although she was mainly talking to Sam, Paul and Jared stood protectively by her until she was done.

"I don't care what you have to do, Sam. Bring her back," she told the alpha.

Sam gave her a long, hard look, "Even if it's one of them?"

Kate gave him a threatening look, "Bring her back."

Sam nodded and then nodded to Paul and Jared. Paul gave Kate a small hug before pulling back with a small smile. She watched as the three boys ran off into the woods. She turned to look back at Harry who nodded at her then turned to talk to Charlie.

Kate walked back to Jacob who stood by the police cruiser with a frown on his face.

"Since when are you friends with Sam Uley's gang?" he asked her accusingly.

Kate glared at him, "Since I moved here. Why do you care?"

"I don't like them."

"Yea well, it's not really your concern who I'm friends with. Besides right now, I need them."

Jacob didn't say anything but looked to where Sam and the boys disappeared into the woods. He shook his head and gave Kate a look that she couldn't quite place before rubbing his hand down her arm, "Well find her."

"We better, or they'll be hell to pay," she said softly.

Jacob gave her a tight smile, "Yea Charlie will hunt that Cullen down."

The hours passed and the temperature dropped. It was two in the morning and there was still no sign of Bella. Kate was shivering head to toe.

"Kate, go get a jacket, a blanket, anything," Jacob tried to reason with her.

Kate shook her head, "I'm not going inside."

Jacob smiled at her stubbornness. He reached out and grabbed her arm before pulling her in close to his chest. With his other hand he opened up his jacket to her. Kate wrapped her arms around his torso and sighed in contentment when he closed the jacket around her.

She could feel his heartbeat above her ear and matched her breathing to it. Jacob was so warm that Kate couldn't help but feel comforted. A scary thought ran through her mind. She was happy and felt safe wrapped in his warm arms. The feelings that Kate had been fighting with all summer once again bubbled up inside her. Kate would hurt him and she couldn't live with herself if she did that. She almost pulled away but Jacob seemed to know what she was about to do and tightened his hold on her.

"I'm going to try the Cullen's place again," she heard Charlie say.

"The Cullen's left town, Charlie," Billy told him.

Harry's voice entered the scene, "Good riddance."

"Where'd they go?" Charlie asked.

"We'll find her, Charlie."

"Thanks, Harry."

"Charlie..." Jacob said. Kate felt Jacob's arms tighten around her again.

Kate spun and saw Sam coming out of the woods with Bella in his arms. She shoved her way out of Jacob's arms and launched herself at her sister mere steps behind Charlie.

"Bella!" Kate cried out.

"She's alright," Sam told her and Charlie.

Charlie took Bella from Sam's arms, "I got her. Thanks, Sam." He began walking toward the house to get Bella warm.

Kate jumped onto Sam and gave him a tight hug, "Thank you, Sam." She leaned up and kissed him on the cheek. "Tell Jared and Paul 'thank you' too."

Sam let go of her, "I will. Call Emily and tell her you're okay. I'll call you tomorrow."

Kate shoved past everyone and into her house. She ran up the steps to see Charlie lay Bella down on the bed.

"Dad, I've got her," she told him.

Charlie shook his head, "No..."

Kate protested, "I have to change her into warm clothes."

He looked up at her and nodded leaving the two sisters alone. Kate gingerly sat down next to Bella and moved the hair from her face.

"Bella, what the hell happened?"

She didn't respond for a few moments but when she did, it was a feint whisper, "He's just gone."

Kate pulled back from her sister slowly. She undressed Bella and wrapped her in the warmest of clothes and blankets before shutting out the light for her to sleep. She waited until her sister was asleep before leaving her. Kate walked down the stairs numb and almost didn't notice Charlie, Billy, Jacob, and Harry waiting for her downstairs. They all looked up when she came down the stairs.

"What happened?" Charlie asked her.

Kate looked at them for a second before answering, "Edward Cullen happened. He dumped her and left her in the woods to die."

Charlie slammed his hand against the nearby wall and strode off to the living room. Harry and Billy followed him leaving Jacob and Kate alone.

"Are you okay?" Jacob asked her cautiously.

Kate shook her head tears almost brimming in her eyes. Jacob moved quickly and wrapped his arms around her once more.

"I hate him. I hate all of them."

Jacob didn't need to ask to know whom she was talking about. He just rubbed her back and let her be angry.

Rage like never before flowed through Kate. The anger that she felt was like a white-hot brand through her stomach. First, he puts her in danger. Then, he tries to kill her. And now, he left her for dead. She hated them. She hated the lot of them. The next time she saw Edward Cullen, she would kill him.
