Chapter 47: My Beautiful Face

"I cant believe he did that." I hiss as I pull out my phone. I had a feeling he had something to do with missing Jordan, but I was not 100% sure, but now I am.

"Kate, what are you doing?" Ava asks.

"Calling Mark, and the police."

"Don't!" James snaps. "How do you know he did it?" He has a good point. I don't know 100% that it was Mark but tomorrow I will say something.

"True, but still. I should call the cops." I explain but James takes my phone.

"Wait n see." I nod and take my phone. I walk over to Jordan's stall and look inside. He seems fine, but now I understand why he was so wild. Why would someone drug my horse? Does someone want me gone that badly? I hear my phone ring and I see its Amanda.

"Hello?" I answer.

"Kate, Sid told me everything! Are you ok?" she cries.

"I'm fine, thanks. But need to find out who did this to him." I hiss.

"Do you have anyone in mine?"

"Yes, but I prefer not to say."

"I understand. Let me know what happens."

"Will do." I say and the line goes dead. I walk back to where everyone is standing and they all look at me.

"Kate," Staal starts, "You're face."

"To the ER!" I say as I roll my eyes. I jump in my truck and start it. James, Ava, Jordan and Geno get in and we head to the hospitable.

"Is it that bad?" I ask and they all nod.

"I cant believe you didn't see that branch." laughs Ava.

"Hey! I was worried about that horse." I snap and everyone laughs. "It really didn't even hurt. The impact lasted, what, 2 seconds. Than I blacked out, so I didn't feel any pain." I explain.

"But still, it was hard to miss." Geno laughs.

"What are you going to do about Jordan?" James asks.

"Get to the bottom of this." I hiss.

"Do you think...Mark did this?" he asks.

"I think so, but before I turn him in, I need evidence." I smile.

"What do you mean?" he asks.

"I need to watch him, when he is around the horses. How do I know he isn't trying to hurt me or my horses."

"Good point." I pull into the parking lot and park. We walk into the ER and sign in.

"Miss. Maxwell back again." Mrs. Johnson says.

"Sadly." I laugh.

"What did you do this time?" she asks, barely looking up from he paper work.

"Well you have to see it to believe it." Geno laughs. she looks up and nearly falls off her chair when she sees my face.

"Um, I will get you a doctor ASAP." she says as she gets up and walks out of the room.

"What? Was it something I said?" I as I look at the three. They look away before I could make eye contact.

"Miss. Maxwell please take a seat. A doctor will be with you shortly." Mrs. Johnson says and I nod. As I walk into the waiting room, everyone looks away from me as soon as they see me.

"What?" I hiss to James.

"Go look yourself." he says and I walk into the bathroom. I close the door and turn on the light. When I see myself I nearly scream. The branch got me at a angle and I have a open wound across my face. There is blood all over my cloths and the sight makes me want to throw up. I run back into the waiting room and I run right to James. He gives me a towel and I cover my face. I break into tears. My face, my beautiful face is gone. In its place is a giant open wound, from a branch.

"Katlin Maxwell?" a doctor asks. I get up and I follow him to the back.

"So what happened this time?" he laughs.

"Haha very funny doctor." I laugh. Every doctor here knows me by name, so everyone's reaction is the same when they hear my name. I take off the towel off and the doctors jaw drops.

"Well, that's a problem." he says as he rights something down on his clipboard.

"Is it that bad?" I ask.

"Sadly. You are going to need staples." he explains.

"Will I be able to play hockey and ride?" I ask.

"Yes, but please be careful. You don't need that many staples, but you MUST wear a mask when playing hockey." the doctor explains and I nod. James take out his phone and starts to type something. "Please come with me." he says and I follow. He takes me into a room and I lay down. He starts to put in the staples and I am in there for a hour or so.

"Are you done?" I whine.

"Yes." he laughs. I walk back out to the waiting area and pay the lady at the front desk.

"Have a nice day." she smiles and we head back to my house. When I walk in the entire team turns to me.

"So, what did the doctor say?" Sid asks.

"She is clear to play and ride." James explains.

"But she has to ware a mask." Geno says. I hate masks, like mouth guards, I destroy them within a week of having it. I once broke a mouth guard because I had nothing better to do at soccer practice a few years ago.

"Where is Mark?" I hiss as I storm out of the house and to the barn. I see his truck in my driveway and I slowly walk in.

"Shh, Kate doesn't know I'm here, boy." Mark says and I am ready to scream, but I hold back that anger and continue watching. He gives Jordan a peppermint and he takes it. Than he pulls out a syringe and injects Jordan with something. I pull out my phone and tape everything. When he is done he puts the syringe in his pocket, but it falls out, and he quickly walks away. He runs to his truck and drives away. I run over to Jordan's stall and pick up the syringe. I whip out my phone and call the vet.

"Kate?" Anna asks. "It late, is something wrong?"

"Please just come quickly! Its Jordan... he's been drugged." I scream.

"WHAT?!" Anna screams, "I'm on my way." and the line goes dead. The team runs in and I turn to them.

"Kate?" Letang asks looking at the syringe in my hand.

"Mark injected Jordan." I say as I hold up the syringe. Everyone looks at me and than to the syringe.

"What did he inject?" Sid asks.

"No clue, vets on her way." I explain as I turn to Jordan. His eyes are slowly closing and he is beginning to lay down. "He must have sedated him. But he could have done more." I say as I stroke Jordan's soft muzzle. I love this horse and my friend would kill me if something happened to her prize horse.

"What are you going to do? Mark might keep drugging him." James explains.

"I got him on tape. I will take it to the cops and press charges. this video says it all." I explains as I throw him my phone. The team watches the video and than hands my phone to the vet, who just arrived.

"Mark?" Anna hisses.

"Mark." I say. She walks over to Jordan's stall and looks at him.

"I am going to have to run a drug teat, but it looks like he is just sedated." Anna explains and I nod. She takes her drug test sample and looks over Jordan one last time. She doesn't find anything. "I will tell you the test results as soon as I get them, but until then, don't ride him." I nod as she walks out to her car and drives away. I turn to the guys and storm past them and run to the house. How could I not see that he was drugging my horse? I ignore Ava, Molly and Mikayla and head right to my room.

I decide to take a shower. I walk into my bathroom, which is the size of my bedroom. It is all done in marble with all up to date features like a TV by the sink and a jet shower with a rain head. I turn the water on has hot as it can go and turn in the jets. I don't care about my face. It is not that bad, really. I take out a towel and place it on the heated rack next to the shower door. I take off my cloths and step in letting the 104 degree water hit my sore body. I moan as the heat hits my right shoulder. it has been killing me, and it feels so good to have the hot water hit it. I wash up and turn off the shower. the entire bathroom is filled with steam and all the mirrors are fogged up and I take my towel and wrap it around me. I dry off and pull out running shorts and my Penguins T-shirt. I wrap the towel around my hair and walk into my bedroom. I see James sitting on my bed waiting for me.

When he sees me he smiles as he wraps his arms around me and pulls me close to him. He pulls me so I fall on top of him.

"Kate, did I ever tell you how much I love you." he whispers. I smile as I kiss him.

"Not going to happen." I laugh as I stand up and walk back to the living room. I see the guys are talking and coach is talking on the phone with someone. When he see me he runs over and hands the phone to me.

"Katlin Maxwell?" a man asks.

"Yes?" I reply.

"I would like to sign you to a 4 year $20 million contract with the Penguins. Dan has the paperwork. What do you say?" Ray asks and I smile.

"I would love too!" I screech. "Thank you so much! you will not regret this." I say.

"I know I will not and I am happy to have you stay. Get well soon and see you at training camp." he says before the line goes dead. I scream and everyone looks at me with a 'you crazy' look on their faces. I run over to coach and he hands me the paperwork.

"A copy has already been sent to you're agent and he approved it, all we need is you're signature." I smile as I sign the papers and hand the papers back to coach. "Welcome to the team." he laughs. I run over to James, who has been watching me, and kiss him.

"What are you so excited about?" he laughs.

"I just signed for 4 years with the Penguins!" I scream and everyone jumps up.

"What? OMG Kate this is huge!" he says as he kisses me. The entire team congratulates me and we celebrate by watching some movies for the rest if the night. I curle up next to James and he wraps his arms around me. I lean against him and smile. I love this team so much. ----------------------------------
