Andrew Holten walked through the gates of the world renown Underling University. It was his first year of going to college, and he was pretty nervous to say the least. His mom, Tammie, had been saving up since he was a baby, just so that he could go to this college when the time came. Andrew had heard a lot about it, even while growing up. Apparently this was the school where pretty much everyone wanted to go. Though, only the smartest of the smartest were allowed to go here. So, he was really surprised when he got the letter saying he got into the school. Andrew was happy, none the less, but he was even more happy that he didn't have to go through it alone.
"Dude, you're going to get trampled if you stand there looking off into space again."
Andrew looked to his left and saw Ashley, his best friend. He met her all the way back in 1st grade, when he had got into a fight with her over the class crayon bucket. He had gotten a red crayon stuck up his nose, and she had a green one crammed in her ear. They both started to laugh their heads off. After the teacher made them clean up the mess they made, they apologized to each other and have been friends ever since.
"Oh, crap. Sorry Ash." Andrew told her.
"It's fine. But we gotta get going to our dorms and unpack the rest of our stuff. School starts in two days. Did you get your room number and key?" She asked.
Andrew held up a small, silver key with a light brown tag attached to it. On the tag it had the number 34 on it in black lettering.
"Yeah," he said. "Soooooo, which side are the boys' dorms again?"
"You're kidding me, right?" Ashley asked me, with a raised eyebrow.
Andrew scratched the back of his head sheepishly. Ashley let out a long and disappointed sounding sign.
"Okay, I'm gonna tell you this one more time, so please pay attention. The boys' dorms are those buildings over there to the left of the school, and the girls' dorms are the ones to the right." Ashley pointed to the places she was naming off. "The track and football field are behind the school building. The pool and gym are inside the actual building itself. There are eight total stories to the school, including the basement a.k.a the boiler room, and the top story which is usually used to store old props, books, desks, chairs..."
"Okay, okay, okay! I get it!" Andrew said.
Ashley was one of the smartest people Andrew knew. She had an amazing memory, as you can probably tell, which helped her especially during tests. So, it was not a shock when she told Andrew that she had got into Underling.
But she wasn't just great academically, she was also great it sports. Mainly soccer, football, and swimming. Andrew never understood how she was able to join and keep up in all those teams. Though, her being 6 foot 5 1/2 inches tall may have something to do with it.
"Do you have all your bags?" Ashley asked.
"Yeah, you?"
She held up two red and yellow duffle bags, both that most likely held all her clothes. Andrew also notice that she was wearing a large, black backpack, which probably carried most if not all of her sport uniforms and equipment.
"Alright, so..." Ashley looked at her white wrist watch. "It's about 3:30. Let's meet back here at about 4:00 and go get some early dinner, okay?"
"Sure, how about Black Castle? My treat." Andrew told her.
"Kay, see ya." Ashley said, while walking towards the girls' dorms.
Andrew pulled up the roller bar of his suitcase and walked off in the other direction. The dorms in this school were a bit different from an ordinary university's. In stead of it being one big building with all the dorms in it, there were multiple condo-like buildings. In each one there are two students who live there through out their time in the university. You aren't able to pick who you room with. Luckily for Andrew, he got paired with someone he knew.
Andrew took out his key and unlocked the front door to his dorm. The dorm that he and his roommate shared had a basement, 1st floor, and a 2nd floor. The basement was pretty empty except for some boxes and a small bathroom, the first floor had a small kitchen and a living room with a small flat screen TV and a desk. Upstairs was the two bedrooms, a hall closet, and another bathroom with a shower.
He opened the door and walked across the hardwood floor and to the stairs. He went up to his room and put his suitcase on his bed. Andrew then went into the bathroom and took a quick shower. After that he put on a clean T-shirt and his favorite burgundy hoodie that had the word "SUP" on the front it in black.
He went over to his roommate's door and knocked on it.
"Hey, I'm going out. I'll be back in an hour or so." Andrew said through the door.
No response.
"Probably out with friends again." Andrew said to himself.
He then grabbed his key from his room and headed out to go and meet up with Ashley. He got there and checked his phone. 3:58. Ashley would be there at any moment, so Andrew sat down on a near by bench. It had been a while since Ashley and him had gone out somewhere together. Black Castle is where they used to hang out as kids. Andrew hoped that they would get to hang out more, now that they were going to college together.
Andrew wiped his head up. He saw something. Or at least, he had seen something. Moving across the campus. It was like a shadow. Small, dark, and was gone the second Andrew lifted his head. He looked around for a second, trying to see if it was hiding anywhere. But it was gone.
Then, Andrew felt a hand grab his shoulder.
