'Well?!?! I yell at Brian, everyone is staring at us,'Look at what you've done! This was a new hat too!!'
Wait let's back up a few minutes or so. You're probably really confused so let me help you out, I'm Juniper, Juniper Casper and my kinda friend Brian Lox just spilled juice on my BRAND NEW HAT! I told him millions of times to knock-it-off when he was playing hacky sack at lunch and that he would knock something down but, did he listen? NO typical boy, doesn't listen well, but my point is I just got a new cap and Brian ruined it after I told him to be careful. Can you say rude?!?! Deep breathes...In...Out....In.....Out... okay okay, back to present times
'I didn't mean too, I'm so sorry Juniper..' says Brian in such a nice way that just makes me more mad 'Well! Sorry doesn't cut it this time buddy!' I scream. By now every eye in the lunchroom was on us. It was so quite you could hear a pin drop and the teachers weren't even intervening. I sit down and feel my face start to flush and know that I'm as red as a ripe tomato. 'Brian,' I say in a small voice 'I'm SO sorry...I didn't mean..I didn't try to..- he cut me off right then and there, 'June I'm just happy your not mad anymore. It can get pretty scary when you are.' His nervous laugh followed which gave me a mosh pit of butterflies in my stomach. I felt myself blushing and asked to go to the bathroom. Once, inside I splashed water on my face while giving myself a pep-talk.' Juniper Casper you should control your emotions and not get mad over a stupid hat.' *splash splash* 'And there are better things to do then get butterflies when sitting next to Brian, you've been kinda friends for a while, you don't want to mess that up so,' *splash splash* ' just ...control yourself.' Alright that was a good talk I think as I head back to the lunchroom. By now my bagel is probably cold ...
I sit down and take a heaving bite of bagel when I give a small yelp! I turn to see Brian giving me a crooked smile, there goes the butterflies again, and h-he's holding a hat! His hat and he's holding out to me!!! 'Here,' he says 'a hat for a hat, you rightfully deserve this,' he tells me. I can barley look straight my mind whirling wondering if this is really happening. Then I realize I've been staring for a while... 'Umm... th-thanks.' I stammer at a lost for words, 'haha, of course it only makes sense.' he says then throws another stupid smile at me. I wish all those butterflies in my stomach would just turn back into caterpillars and stop bothering me.
It's about time to leave school and Mrs. Leary, my teacher, clears her throat. The room slowly grows quite, 'I am announcing another assignment for today students.' Moans and groans echo on the classroom walls. Am I the only one NOT complaining? I think. 'Brian looks at me from across the classroom and slowly drags his finger across his throat and I laugh. Mrs. Leary gives me a death stare. 'Well I hope SOME of you will take this seriously,' she says obviously aiming towards me,' moving on, what you have to do is report the weather forecast for the next week and predict how tall our plants will grow if we keep them near the window,' More moans follow..' You are now dismissed' she states. 'Good' I hear someone say. It sounded like Brian I think to myself as I walk to get my things from my locker when he intercepts me. 'I was wondering...would like to come over around 3:30 to work on the project with me?' he looks at me hopefully and quickly adds ' Don't worry I have good snacks; Pringles, Cookies , Oreos my personal favorite, Twizzlers-' I interrupt him, 'Sure, I'd love to. and by the way..I like Twizzlers too.' I say. He then shuffles away with another grin. I smile to myself as I walk the rest of the way to 432 my locker.
On the bus my seat partner must have been sick so I had a whole seat to myself. I reclined on my backpack and took out my favorite notebook and pen. I try to think of all the stuff we'll talk about... 'Twizzlers for sure..' I mutter to myself. Too bad Brian sits two seats in front of me and seems to have super sonic hearing. 'What about Twizzlers?!?' he yells excitedly in my general direction. Then notices me peeking out of my seat. 'Of course, it was you, you like Twizzlers too, totally forgot to ask but which do you like more? Black or Red?' he says. 'I'll eat whatever you have.' I say with a sincere smile. 'Oh come on just tell me!' he says. 'okay okay umm..' I say, 'Red.' 'Good choice!' he said 'Red is the best. I'll make sure I have some ready.' 'Okay thanks.' I say to him looking sheepishly at the floor. Good thing he didn't seem to notice... The rest of the bus ride I continued brainstorming for my list by the time we got to my stop I had nothing good. Oh, well I guess I'll just wing it I decide. Then I got out and started humming 'Tear in my Heart' as I skipped home I just knew that later I'd have the most fun I'd ever had studying. And I knew just what to wear...my new hat.
Sorry this story was short but I hope you enjoyed. Every story needs a bit of backbone and that's what this chapter really is, trust me I have great plans in store for more excitement !! I hope you enjoy my book and keep reading!! <3 - Trish
