Seb pulled into the parking lot of the beach and turned the car off with a sigh. "Do we have to be here?" he whined. "I'd rather stay at home."
"Come on, this day has been planned for weeks," I said. "Dax and Isadora are already here. You really want to stand them up?"
Seb shrugged. "Doesn't matter. They both live with us and will see us at home."
"Beach!" Evelyn announced from the back seat of the car.
"You want to go to the beach?" I asked, turning in my seat to face her.
"Yeah!"
"Sorry, Seb, you're outnumbered," I said.
"I'm not outnumbered," Seb muttered as he took off his seat belt.
I just rolled my eyes and got out of the car, opening the back door and helping Evelyn get out. "Don't run off, okay?" I asked. Whenever we went out somewhere, Evelyn loved running off; the restaurant, the beach, the arcade. No matter what, she took off.
"Okay, Mommy!" she said and stood beside the back of the car.
Seb and I began pulling everything out of the car, but it wasn't long before Evelyn tried running away. Seb quickly caught her and picked her up. "I thought your mommy told you not to run away," he said.
"Okay, Daddy!" Evelyn said.
Seb sighed and put Evelyn down. "If you want to play at the beach, you have to stay right here. I'm serious. No running away, okay?"
"Okay, Daddy!"
Once the stroller was out of the car and opened, Seb went to the back seat and took the carseat out, attaching it to the stroller. "Are you sure he should be out in the sun?" Seb asked. "Maybe I can stay with Atticus at home."
"Stop trying to get out of it," I said. "It's fine for babies to be in the sun when their six months old. Besides, we got the umbrella and the stroller has a canopy, so he won't be completely in the sun. Stop being a downer."
Seb just sighed and closed the back door while I closed the trunk. He then locked the car and Evelyn held my hand as we began walking down the beach to find where Dax and Isadora were. They left earlier because Seb was taking to long, and lucky they did because it was starting to get really crowded.
We finally found them. They already had the blanket and umbrella set up, and Dax, of course, was already eating the food he brought. That was exactly why Seb told him to bring his own bag of food. That kid, though being twenty, would eat everyone's food.
"Took you long enough," Dax said, his mouth filled with chips.
Seb flicked his forehead. "Don't talk with your mouth full."
"You can't tell me what to do," Dax said. "Right, Skittles?" Skittles barked happily to whatever Dax said, probably not even knowing what he agreed to. Then again, Dax claimed he and Skittles spoke to each other on a spiritual level and he claimed Skittles understood everything Dax said. I doubt it, but it was Dax, so you could never be too sure.
Evelyn quickly ran over to Dax and wrapped her arms around him. "Das!"
"Hi, Evelyn, even though I just saw you half an hour ago," Dax said, hugging her back.
