Insomniac Dreams

I've learned to,

Dream with my eyes open.

Pretend the world is my chessboard,

And you are all gamepieces,

I have learned,

That this will only ever be,

What I make it.

And if you,

Put me in checkmate,

I guess it's over.

Until the sun rises tomorrow.

And we reset our games,

Staying up to play,

Until the darkest hours of the morning,

The brightest hours of the night,

We,

Are the only insominiacs that know how to dream.

Without closing our eyes,

We,

Can see the beauty in a reality,

That,

Others wish to be rid of but,

I embrace it with open arms,

Because it will only ever be what I make it,

He,

Is my bishop,

My most important defender,

I've learned to play over and over,

Until I catch you on a diagonal,

Caught between a rook and a bishop,

My most important defender,

I see the tiredness in your eyes...

I,

Almost.

Give in.

But I came here to win,

And even if your king falls,

Night never does,

Because night is supposed to be for sleeping.

Instead, we stay up dreaming,

Knowing we are only,

Insomniacs.

Going against the norm,

But we only dare to be different,

In the light of the stars.
