MARIA

Maria walked into the Kreamy Krisp donut joint on Main Street. Something was not normal, though. There happened to be a strange man sitting on the curb talking into a banana.

"Houston, we have a problem," he said into the fluorescent banana telephone. A donut delivery van was crashed into the front of the store, strangely undamaged for the amount of damage done to the main structure of the building. There were several corpses laying on the ground, along with several cats swarming the building, aimlessly without a master.
The small group of apocalypse refugees crossed over the pile of bodies and cats into the building.

"What happened here?" Angelo asked, not really to anyone in particular.

"A great donut heist has happened here," responded Cassandra.

They walked into the building on top of the rubble, and crossed to where the donuts were displayed. Miraculously, the beautiful glass case with the donuts was completely undamaged in the heist. The donuts sat there in all their glory, practically shining with the beauty. It almost inspired a metaphor.

"Even through the darkest of times, some small donuts can survive." Angelo said.

"It's like a metaphor of our life right now," Maria said, "The Great Cat Apocalypse being the heist and us being the donuts."

"Does everything have to become a life lesson, Mom?" Charlie half asked, half whined.

"Yes."

Suddenly, a great boom came from outside.

"HAS SOMEONE BEEN STEALING THE PRECIOUS DONUTS? THOSE DONUTS ARE THE LIFE GEMS OF THE DELIVERY TRUCKS AND YOU, PUNY MORTALS ARE STEALING THEM!" The voice seemed to come from the delivery truck.

"Save the donuts!" Julio whispered.

Everyone began grabbing the donuts from the display case and shoving them into boxes. Those that could not fit in boxes were shoved into the mouths of the hungry Cortez children.

"THE FILTHY MORTALS ARE SEIZING THE DONUTS!"

"I am no mortal," Alfonzo said, and flew up to the truck and opened the hood, and ripped out the car battery.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Alfonzo flew back over to the small group still inside the donut shop. Suddenly, the voice outside changed from the deep booming voice of the delivery truck to the strangely familiar voice of a woman.

There stood Eliza in front of the delivery truck, armed with a gun that could probably kill them all.

"Everyone, get on me!" Alfonzo yelled.

Everyone obeyed. Charlie pulled his AK47 out of his pocket, deminiaturized it, and just as Alfonzo was flying away, aimed at Eliza and pulled the trigger.

The bullet sailed straight at her, but just as it was about to make the fatal blow, a breeze came along, causing the bullet to hit her in the leg. Alfonzo launched into hyperspeed, but just before they zoomed away, the truck exploded and they heard:

"YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE LAST OF ME!"
