My song is No One Would Riot for Less by Bright Eyes.
" Death may come invisible or in a holy wall of fire"
" I'm leaving this place but there is nothing I'm planning to take
Just you"The cushion of the bed softly hugged his body. The boy was young and small. His hands were only slightly larger than the hot wheels cars he loved to play with. His eyes were a dull gray and the light was quickly fading from them. The skin that he wore was already turning a blue gray.
His mother struck a match on the little matchbox just s few feet away in the lavender stained hospital room. These moments had been predicted months before. She lit a blue candle that smelled of sunshine and the happy scent seemed to glow through the gloom.
She held the boy's hand as the tears glided down her alabaster cheeks. Her face hid behind a mess of dark hair. The mother carried her pride like a Bible.
As if someone had flipped a switch, the light in the boy's eyes faded quickly. The pulsing heart monitor let out it's constant wail as the mother cried out for help.
They rushed in. Their white cloaks masked all emotion. The boy was just another paying customer. They hid under latex gloves and chest compressions while letting their insides erode away with each shock into the body.
They zipped the boy away in a mess of white packaging to be shipped to distant lands. Then, they gathered the beeping machines and the bedding for the bed. The mother was left in an empty room before she could process the situation.
She was left in silence. The absence of the monitor left the room cold and dreary. Sunshine shone from the blue candle, however. The light made the room happier. Sounds of the silence made the woman happier.
It was all as if the death took rotting bit of her heart with it. The sadness seemed to follow the boy into the package and only left the peaceful silence as his replacement.
