Kellin's pov
I was never the best at controlling my temper.
But who would be if they were treated the way I was?
At this point I don't even care, I don't want to come back from my suspension. All I did was punch another dickbag who kept calling me "faggot" in the most annoying voice. Such dull minds, I wonder how their future will turn out.
Still.
I shrugged and continued walking towards the place in the forest where I don't even need to be understood. A place where I truly am at peace and I don't even need to be dead.
What is this place, you ask?
Well it's basically a rock to you but more to me. No one ever goes there except me but if anyone were to see what I do there well then I'm in deep shit.
After a few minutes of walking through the dense forest with trees growing so high the mist covers my view of the dark green tops, I finally reach it.
I hop up using my arms to lift my weight and swiftly cross my legs right underneath left and close my eyes lifting my hands in front of me each palm facing each other within a couple of centimetres.
I breathe in, breathe out. Feeling the sensation running through my arms to my palms, I furrow my brows, not quite there yet and I hear a faint crackle emitting between my hands. They shake ever so slightly.
I slowly begin to open my eyes as a small flame begins to grow and I don't need to focus as much as I did in the beginning.
My hands slowly begin to stop shaking and I stare at the small ember with glowing eyes as the heat bounces off my face.
It's so calming.
All my temper and rage goes into this small ball of relief.
The ball dances and flickers gracefully and fiercely at the same time until.
Snap!
I quickly turn scanning the forest through wide eyes, stuffing my hands into my jacket pockets.
I look all around and my eyes freeze over a figure.
I think I know him from school...
Mexican, SnapBack, long brown curly hair, nose ring...
And suddenly a name screams out from my mind.
Vic Fuentes.
He must've noticed that I've heard him because he looks like he was in the middle of taking a step and he looks at me like I've just caught him red-handed.
See, I have seen him around and he never helps me out in situations. Although, I've always seen him lurking from a distance. So I may not hate him much but I'm not very fond of him.
"Uh..I-I'm sorry." He stutters. "I should leave."
He points backwards and turns awkwardly.
"No. Wait." He turns back around, I need answers. "What uh..." I look at the ground awkwardly coming up with something to say. "What are you doing here?"
"Well I'm on my way home."
"That can't be right," I've never seen him around. "I come here every single day."
"I moved houses and I have to walk through here." Oh. "What are you doing starting a fire?"
So he tries to throw that 'defensive-comeback-question'. He furrows his eyebrows and straightens his stance.
"I wasn't." I shove my hands deeper into my pockets and he takes a step closer and locks eyes with them.
"What's in your pockets?"
Keep your pierced fucking nose out of my business, boy.
Blood begins to heat up under my skin and I furrow my brows even more, clenching my fists inside my pockets.
"Nothing." I say through clenched teeth.
"Why are you getting worked up, man? Jeez." He says and I realise why. I take a deep breath and take my hands out allowing them to cool beside me on my left. Then suddenly a strange idea popped into mind.
Maybe I should actually try making friends for once.
I sighed at the idea and clasped my hands together and gave him a small smile.
"I'm sorry." I apologised looking down at my scuffed converse. "I get pretty hulk sometimes."
"Short temper?" He asked with a reassuring smile.
"Yeah." I said breathily. "I never had a friend to help me out with it...just..." I sighed frustratedly, unable to finish my sentence.
"Understandable," he nodded, "well today's your lucky day, amigo! I can be your friend."
He smiled and was about to jump onto the rock beside me when he placed his hands about to lift himself up when he yelped and jumped back clutching his palms which were shaking in pain for a few seconds.
I instinctively reached out in reaction but only cause a small crackle to escape my fingertips and I quickly held my hands to my chest.
Shit.
He stared at me like I've just shot someone and he seemed to be in the same position as I was. It was like a mirror, we stared at each other with wide eyes, hands held to our chest, leaning back in sheer surprise and fright.
"What the fuck, Kellin?" He whispered, I'm surprised he knows my name.
I looked away in guilt and fear of what was to come.
But he just stood there and surprised me with a question I never thought I'd ever be asked.
"Can y-you show me?"
I stared at him for a while and hesitantly nodded.
He jumped to my right side and we turned to face each other and I resumed my actions from earlier creating the small ball of fire.
He was just so entranced. I was a freak yet he admired what made me one.
His brown eyes glowed orange and I watched as it flickered and his skin dimmed and brightened with the light.
Of course, like the modern person he wanted to see if it were real and not some gimmick to make him a fool.
He slowly reached out his finger tip and poked the fire and quickly clutched his hand back and I waved my hands in a circular motion extinguishing the flame watching the last small pieces of flame disappear into the air. Being the one handling the fire I've had burns before on my leg when I was still figuring out how to 'get rid' of it. I pulled out a tub of cream for the burn and he watched my every move even through such an ordinary task he was still entranced with my hands.
I squeezed some of it onto my fingertip and grabbed his wrist with my free hand then slathering the cream gently onto his fingertip and I apologised but he merely nodded.
He was my only friend and I don't want to lose what I've only just received.
Hours past and it was beginning to get dark but he refused to walk alone and in the dark as it happened to be something he was afraid of so I offered to walk him home for the rest of the forest path. He accepted with no hesitation and we walked with a conversation to keep us distracted and light on the tip of my finger to lead the way.
When we got to the edge of the forest, he thanked me and hugged me. The hug had a warmth to it that no fire could ever give me and that meant something.
He turned to face me after a few steps away and said something that made the warmth go from outside to in.
"Kellin Quinn, I like your spark."
