It was a warm afternoon, I had just finished a visitation to the Auckland Science Musuem and I was about to reach home in 10 minutes on the metro. "De...De...De...Please Mind The Gap" the door system sounded. Soon I felt hungry and I really needed something to fill my gurging stomach. As the train continued down several stops, I decided to phone the house. I was expecting my nanny to pick up the phone but it was disconnected. Perhaps my nanny was a slow coach, so I tried again. Again it failed.
At once, I felt a bit uneasy. My nanny had never miss one call from me and then I began to worry. I was still seated, but this time and for the first time I had clasp my hands on a train. What if nanny had collapsed or suffered a fall, it was a mystery to find out. Then I shut my eyes and said a prayer. Once my eyes were open, the speaker sounded "Arriving at New Chapel Square..." I held onto my sling bag and prepared to allight the train. The brakes were screeching to a stop and everyone of us tilted sideways. Then it was at full stop. As the signal beeped and the doors open, the whole crowd squeezed their way out of the train. One tall guy lunged forward and pushed the crowd, the others kept pressing on.
I took the long escalator up and atlast the crowd dispersed. I flashed my card at the automated entry point and then I proceeded out. The station was just a metre off from my neighborhood but the busy road ahead was not bringing me any closer. Quickly, I pressed the crossing button. As soon as the lights switched yellow, I could not care less about waiting. I took the biggest traffic offence and I crossed.
After a while, I reached home. As I walked up the driveway, I heard a rough voice of a woman. Without noticing the ground, suddenly I heard a loud crushing sound of shattered glasses. The glasses were all over the floor. Then I looked above, I saw nanny's bedroom window badly smashed. At first, I had a suspicion for a robbery. But then I heard nanny screaming in rage.
Then I pushed open the main door and then I entered. I watched my steps carefully as I entered the house and then nanny screamed even louder. I could not figure out what she had said as she spoke in traditional chinese dialect. I was uncertain of what had made her like a mad dog.
Then I decided to check it out, so I climbed the flight of termite infested stairs to the second floor. As I approached nanny's room at the end of the corridor, I spotted a brown fury tail wigging left and right. Nanny continued to rant loudly and I felt more curious about it.
I calmly pushed open the ajar door and minded the unknown tail. Instantly, something pounced right onto my face. "AHH..." I screamed to the top of my voice. Then it started scratching my face with its sharp pointed claws. I could feel some blood streaming onto my eyes and mouth. Suddenly I regained some control and with all the strength I had, I kicked the attacker hard on its chest. It went mid-air and it landed beside me. It was a rude discovery. It was a darn thin black orang hutan.
