“I’m coming home. See you in an hour.”
A small smile formed into my lips as I read his text message. He said he’s on his way back home, and it’s a relief for me. The rain has been pouring real hard since this afternoon, and it haven’t stopped yet. I was never the pessimistic one, but I can’t seem to stop getting strange or weird things inside my head.
I stared blankly at the ceiling as I played with my own hair. As the time goes by, it’s starting to get harder for me to stop thinking things. I could even find it hard to breathe. I’m coming home. See you in an hour. I kept that in mind. I somehow felt okay. I took my phone from the side table at my right and checked the time. 8:07 PM, an hour ago since I’ve received his text message. I bit my lower lip. I admitted to myself, I’m scared. I terribly worried. Calum was never the one who doesn’t keep his promises. Especially to me. I put in mind that for sure that there’s an acceptable reason behind this, and I know he wouldn’t do such thing. I know he loves me. I trust him.
I hadn’t noticed, I’ve fallen asleep on the couch. If it wasn’t for the loud knock coming from my front door, I guess I’d still be sleeping until now. And then I got back to my senses. Someone is knocking on my door. I got up from the couch and literally ran to check who it was. I took a deep breath and turned the knob.
And there, I saw, a pale-faced soaking Calum standing in my porch.
Calum is home. My Calum is home.
“You are soaking wet, Cal! What happened?” I said, surprised and relieved at the same time. He looked really tired and pale, but the fact that he got home safe got me to stop from over thinking.
I grabbed his cold hand and took him upstairs. I asked him to take his top off as I get him a dry one from his drawers. I threw him the shirt and the towel I took and he got hit on the face. I chuckled lightly. He remained silent.
My face got back from smiling to a straight one again. “Cal, you okay babe?” I asked calmly.
He looked at me and it seemed like a moment. I can never get tired of staring at his eyes. Not even a chance, not ever. I am drowning in his eyes in a good way. I saw something in his eyes that I know I’ve never seen before. He looked sad.
His cold hands grabbed mine as we sat down on our bed. Our fingers interlocked perfectly, just like how I imagined it years ago. I smiled at the thought, as I gently rubbed his hands with my thumb. I looked up at him; he was staring at our hands too. He looked so sad, drowning from his own thoughts. I have never seen Calum so down like this before.
“Hey Cal. What’s wrong, love?” I asked.
He gripped my hand tightly, and it somehow hurt but I ignored it. He slowly looked up at me, sadness still in his eyes.
“I need to go again, Stella.”
We remained looking at each other, hands still intertwined. I honestly don’t know what to say. I’m finding it hard to let out a word. I can’t let him go out again, not with this kind of weather. I got worried sick a while ago and got me over thinking about things I shouldn’t be thinking about. But Calum would never do this unless it’s really important.
“A-are you sure? I mean, it’s still raining hard. You might get si-“
“I will be fine. You know I’ll always be.” He uttered. A smile escaped his lips, making me do the same thing.
“Promise me you’ll get back as soon as you can.” I touched his face and he closed his eyes, feeling it. He was so cold.
“I love you so much, Stella. I really do.” And he kissed me on the lips passionately.
