I walked up to Aria in her bed, pulling out her headphones. "Hey."

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"An intervention."

"We brought take out and rag-mags," Emily said, tossing out the magazines next to her.

Hanna was sitting at the foot of the bed and Spencer was standing behind me. "But you can not have any of those until you get out of these sweats," Hanna said.

Aria started to sit up. "Why? What's wrong with these?"

"Nothing," Spencer told her. "Except they're starting to graft to your skin."

"Well, they're comfy."

"Yeah, so are mom jeans and platform flipflops," Hanna said.

"Plus, how are we gonna up you choose a Homecoming dress if you don't try some on for us?" Emily asked.

"Oh, that's easy," Aria said. "I'm not going."

"What do you mean, you're not going?" I asked.

"Yeah, you can't just not go," Spencer said.

"What are you doing instead?" Emily asked.

"I don't know," Aria said. "I guess I'll just read these," she flipped through the magazines, "and then inhale a gallon of Chunky Monkey."

"Hey," Spencer said. "Cutting yourself off from the rest of your life is not gonna help your parents. And besides, they might still work it out."

"Yeah, they're barely speaking to each other," Aria said.

"People get angry, they blow up," Emily said, and I started to stare off into space. "It doesn't mean it's over."

"Emily, they didn't blow up over her dad missing their anniversary," Hanna said. "He slept with one of his students." She looked over to Aria. "Sorry."

"I'm just saying things could look over on Friday," Emily said. "And by Monday, all is forgiven. Somethings just take time."

"Yeah," Aria said. "Maybe."

"Okay, so you're coming," I said cheerfully, trying to break out of my own thoughts of a drug addict dad. I reached down and grabbed her legs, trying to pull her up. "Come on."

"Ugh," she said, sitting up. "I'll think about it."

Aria stood up, standing in the middle of me and Emily.

"Well, if you're not coming, can you at least cast an absentee ballet?" Hanna asked. I scoffed. "What? I need her vote."

"Hanna, stop all ready," Spencer said. "You've got the Homecoming Queen locked down."

"Really?" she asked as Spencer sat down. "You can rig the election?"

"Sorry, I have enough to do already, thanks." Emily started to take the take out out of the take out bag. "I'm ahead of the committee, half of which is out sick with the flu, so I'll be restocking the ice and refilling the humus bowl and trying to look cute for my first official date."

"With Alex?" Emily asked.

"Wait, you're bringing him to Homecoming?" I asked. "So this is real."

Spencer smiled, shrugging while her cheeks got redder. "Look at her blush!" Hanna laughed.

"Just stop!" Spencer said back in the same way.

"Hey, now I have to come," Aria said.

"Seriously, guys, he's not gonna know anybody there," Spencer said. "So . . . can you just do your best to make him feel included?"
