Prologue

I woke up in a different world. On the side of the street. I was wearing a silk dress that was now covered in mud while everyone around me was wearing clothes made of raggedy cotton. I pondered how I could have ended up here. The last thing I remember is reading a novel in my room, and now I'm in the street? Maybe I fell asleep and this is a dream. If that is the case, when did my dreams become so vivid?

I slowly began to arise from where I was laying on the cold, damp ground. I looked around to see that I truly was the only one dressed in silk. The silky garment I seemed to be wearing was several shades of blue and went down to my ankles. It had shorts sleeves holes, exposing my slim shoulders.

Making my way to a paved road, I began walking to who-knows-where rather slowly. My legs carried me as if they knew the trek by heart. Before long, I found myself standing at the door of a mansion—no. It wasn't a mansion. The architectural miracle before me was too large to be a mansion. Its size and style were was more like a castle. Like something you would see in the mid-evil times.

As I was about to turn and walk away, a small boy, no older than thirteen, opened the door and gave me the biggest smile I've ever seen. His blond hair was so blonde that it almost looked white, and his eyes were so blue, you'd think you could swim in them. He appeared to be about five foot six in height, so he was a bit taller than me, despite it being obvious that I'm older.

"My lady! You've finally returned!" His smile grew, if that was even possible, as he pulled me inside. "We've all been so worried about you! You were gone so long! But oh! Look at your dress! What happened? You're okay, right? If someone hurt my princess, I swear I'll—"

I chuckled lightly. Why does it feel like he's my be or something? I'm a only child. "Don't worry. I'm fine."

His smile grew again as he began pulling me down the hall. How is it possible to smile that much? "I'm glad. Now come on! I'm sure mother and father wish to see you!"

The cheerful boy led me to a large hall with a man and a woman sitting on thrones with cushions made of red velvet. The parts that weren't covered in the fabric were gold. As we approached, I realized something about the man and woman...They looked exactly like my parents!

"Father? Mother? The princess has returned." The blonde spoke timidly, unlike he had previously. Maybe he was nervous...

The man looked in our direction with a relieved look on his face. "Thank you, Prince Alec. Please take your leave so we may talk to your sister in private."

The boy, Alec, gave a princely bow and gave me a reassuring smile before leaving me alone with the two adults. Sister huh? So in this dream, I have a little brother who's a prince...Okay then. Might as well play along.
